Re: Traxxas 1 (=TRX-1) [Ready to Race]
Hello everyone,
First i would like to apologize for my English ... but i'm french ! i will try do to my best to write a correct post here !!
I wanted to share with you my TRX-1 restoration. I must admit that this model was not so easy to find here in France and when the opportunity came to me, i could not resist
This is how I bring it home after a short car travel:
This car belonged to a regional racer in France. This guy also engaged this car in the french championship in the begining of the 90's.
Once out of the box it appears to be almost complete ! There are a lot of spare parts too (good news) : a pair of brand news CVD, some wheels/tires in pretty good shape...
At this moment i can only say that the plastic Gear Cover is missing ... I have already ordered a brand new screw set to replace the rusty ones.
Stay tuned !!! next step is unbuild to see what i need to change/modifiy and to rebuild ... the target is to make it ready for a vintage french off-road race in June ...

your english is perfectly understandable and fine. Even those of us who can speak english sometimes can't type properly.
I don't quite see your pictures, (could be on my end), but TRX-1 is always a crowd favorite, and it seems almost every one is missing the gear cover.
congrats on the tough find in France!

Re: Traxxas 1 (=TRX-1)
Hello Everyone,
I decided to have a top deck for that TRX-1. I ordered one to a guy in France that can make on-demand parts:
I was then able to find a new body, a new set of wheels and ... a new gear cover Yeah !!!!
I ordered a few parts, namely some alloy Yokes (i read on this forum that it was a must have on this model ) :
Then i grabed a Thorp Gear set on ebay :
Then here come the rebuild:
- First i decided to give the white parts a little more ... white color. I used some oxygenated water and the result was quite good :
Before / After
Final result:
The diff was rebuild with brand new parts, and the Thorp gears are in place inside the Gear box:
During this time, the color scheme of the body regarding the paint job was something i was thinking of, and as Traxxas did release some pink parts, i decided to order a pink front bumber ... will see if i can use it
So this is how it looks now ! The good new : no need to make some modification to adapt Lipo 2s on it !

Hey Nat,
I left VRC a few years ago because I thought they had completely lost the plot and were wearing blinders - I never looked back. But a quick search on google on your name and car pointed me there. And I couldn't see the pics there either
Somehow my handle on rcmagvintage has also been lost when they transitioned the site, so I completely abandoned the French-speaking vintage RC community. No clue who Manobet is (I know Manowar, though!) I'll see if I can see your pix from another 'puter. And if I like that top-deck, I 'll chase Monsieur Manobet
I use photobucket to host my pics, don't even think about it if you don't have an ad-blocker... but once you have one, it's silky smooth!

Regarding Manobet ... pouahhhh !!! this guy can make whatever you need. He also have a RC collection that facilitate the repro ! His favourite materials : Dural, POM and FRP. I will try to show you what he has already made for me ... starting with the TRX-1 top deck that you will see in that topic

Re: Traxxas 1 (=TRX-1)
I can see! I can see!!!
Very very nice TRX-1. And great to hear that you can peroxyde the parts like on the RC10. I have a few traxxas cars that can beneficiate from this, I never dared try it on traxxas plastics.
a good alternative to the Thorp parts is the optional metal top-gear from Traxxas, not easy to track down though, and a good ole stealth diff gear, this one is much easier to find... yes it's a direct fit in the traxxas transmission
Curious to see how the top-deck fits

Yes you can peroxyde the thick part NOT THE THIN ONES like the plastic diff yoke or the rod ends. i get into trouble with thin parts as you can see :
It is breaking like a mirror !!
I have the Metal top gear too as an altrenative of the Thorp set, will test both anyway
This is the parts that i get from Manobet for the TRX-1 : Tod peck and a Dural front body mount !!

Re: Traxxas 1 (=TRX-1)
Hey this car looks super. Really nice. On the Thorp Dirt Burners gearset: I have twisted / cracked / chipped off two different derlin top gears. It was 27T motor on 2S lipo on turf. Maybe I had the slipper clutch a little tight. Just for your information.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Lots of the old Traxxas stuff should be boiled to help restore some strength. I have had the same problem with undyed white parts on my bullet. Original purchase late 80s.

Yes. I boiled all parts after the peroxyde but i could not even prevent the cracks

Re: Traxxas 1 (=TRX-1)
Speaking of strength, is that a custom top deck piece? If so, I would've added some cross-hatching or something because that looks like it would fold up like a lawn chair...I guess that wouldn't matter if it's a shelf-queen. The parts whitening turned out great, and I dig the touch of blue on the shock caps.
