Connector Indecision

Hey Guys,
Finishing up a "runner" goldpan rebuild. The car was last raced in 1990 or 1991 so I am putting it back into that configuration. Though I know hardwiring was popular, for practicality I am going to use battery connectors. Trying to decide between Anderson and Race Prep pro2. Which do you think is more appropriate? My newer stuff is all Deans T but that I know is out of place on this one.

Race prep was my first non-tamiya plug, so I'd go that way. Did you use any connectors on it at the time?

I did not race this one. I started in 95 myself so this is a couple years before me.

I would think any of the three would be appropriate. I know the race prep were good, I switched to the anderson powerpole from tamiya style when I could afford them and never really had an issue. years later, they do go bad because the silver oxidizes. I don't know when the deans went to the T style but I want to say I saw them in that time frame.

Ya ya I know, but the reality of it is that I want to toss this down and run a few laps with my kiddos and not have to break out the soldering iron. I just picked up some NOS race preps on the bay ( for cheap ), so I am going that route I think.

This... period-correct, plus it also allows you to use your modern multi-mode chargers that are set for 4mm bullet lipos, except you just don't use the balance lead.

Otherwise - raceprep pro2, because that design was so cool, and that green color is the shiznit. Powerpole, not so sexy

I like the Anderson/Sermos/Litespeed connectors simply because they have never changed.

I love the old 4 pin red deans connectors as well. The Ultra plugs are great but too new.

I have a handful of the race preps. They are nice but still were possible to plug backwards just enough to get a blown up speed control so we didn’t run them much around here.

Astro flite made a really nice connector as well but they were quite expensive and hard to find.

I vote for the Race Preps. They were the hot connector ( ) in the early 90s here and I actually still use them. Work fine up to 3s. I've never tried them with anything bigger.

I used sermos back then. After they wear out and cost you a race, you learn your lesson and hard solder.

Deans 4 pin. Red. I liked the low profile for motors. Always thought the voltage drop with good connectors wasn't enough to justify hard wiring the batt/motor. But wow did it look high-speed.
