As a former Illinois resident (first 36 years), I couldn't agree with you more. Most of my immediate family still live in central Illinois. Unfortunately, Cook County sucks most of the tax revenue from downstate counties and everyone suffers -- everyone's a slave to Cook county. Happy to be living elsewhere but I feel bad for the family.R6cowboy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 4:17 pmUnfortunately for us, IL counties are 90% red, but we have that hellhole dump called Chicago that ruins the entire state. Would be a rather good state if there were a state line surrounding said dumb.juicedcoupe wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 2:29 pm I don't really feel bad for them. They got what they voted for.

Yay!
Politics
edit: I guess I should add a pic. Nothing exciting. Just a room with new carpet. But I did the carpet. Kinda weird that carpet isn't a DIY thing.

Because most people couldn't use a power stretcher, knee kicker, or seaming iron to save their life.
I can do it but refuse to. It isn't worth it.

It's been said that the word "politics" comes from "poli" meaning many, and "tics" meaning blood sucking insects.
BTW, I've done carpet. I think you've done an outstanding job with the room in the photo.

Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
For some circumstances, it certainly isn't worth it from a DIY standpoint. I sold off a rental a couple of years ago, and the house was empty, and had the whole thing done professionally and have no regrets. There were no furniture issues, and they were in and out in about 20% (okay, maybe 10% ) of the time it would have taken me, and they did it better than I could have done. I was also going to have nothing to do with the final product after sale, so didn't care.
But the general statement misses some positives. This is based on my eventual plan of carpeting my entire second floor.
- logistics of emptying rooms. I can relatively easily move furniture from one room and work on it on its own. Trying to clear out our second floor would be an absolute nightmare.
- I can do each room one at a time as my schedule and budget allows. What would be a multi-thousand dollar project can be broken down into sub-thousand dollar projects. This is the difference between financing and just paying cash for someone of my means.
- I can do any subfloor repairs (fix squeaks) as needed, and again on my schedule and budget. Every carpeted room of this 1980 house has 2-3 spots that need some work. I like to take the time and make the fixes.
- the tools are relatively cheap, save a quality power stretcher. I used a HFT stretcher (with homemade cut and drilled EMT poles) for this room, but hope to find a second hand quality one before moving on.
- there is no such thing as free carpet install.
- pride of DIY
In the spirit of the thread, I did not take any pictures today that are cool in any way, outside of a build that I am looking to get into. I know this isn't an RC car pic thread, but this is all I had for today.

Double post.
I always hit that quote button when I mean to hit the edit button, then don't realize it until too late. Sorry about that.
So, another pic I guess.

When I was leaving work this car carrier was going by. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to zoom in.

Someone's clearing out their movie cars, maybe.... I see A-Team, Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, what could be a Mad Max Interceptor, and possibly a Jurassic Park 4x4?THEYTOOKMYTHUMB wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 7:29 pm When I was leaving work this car carrier was going by. Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
Might be the/a "Bullit" Charger under the A-team van. Could be Dom's though. Might not be a Charger at all though. Side note, I caught the A-Team stunt show at Universal back in '86. Also the Conan The Barbarian show.
Flash forward to Northeast Oregon mid/late 2000's and the dude who was "Conan" (Richie Brose) has a local (3 county/locations) pizza joint called "New York Richie's"....really good pizza and cheesesteak sandwiches....Anyway, around the joint he had memorabilia, knickknacks, etc. Picture of him in all the Conan gear...and right near the register...a pic of him with Faceman Templeton Peck Dirk Benedict! They were on a yacht somewhere doing something.....So I'm in the place one time and I says to the guy, I says, "hey Richie, I caught the Conan show back in '86." And he says, "Woah, '86. '86 was a heavy year."
I bet it was!
Anyhow, I'll zip it for now.

Not a pic, but a screenshot. Took this earlier while working on a part, and something just seemed off about it. Not sure why the original designer went this route.
