Finished the PB Mini Mustang chassis , had to be very patient at the end as Fusion 360 was close to crashing after every action and it had to think for 5 min before I could continue , that also meant I was saving after every action and it needed to think for another 5 min , just tedious :!: Anyway I have it in two flavours , a split version with a joint that fits on most print beds for home printing or a full length version .

Started modding the Mini Mustang chassis , I was asked to make it fit a shorty lipo and add a nylock nut for the belt tensioner screw. The battery was more involved as i had to move the servo 10mm forward to fit it all in . I beefed up the tensioner screw area and added another screw hole for holding things together there.

Think the shorty lipo chassis is ready .

I looked into pricing for Shapeways and its just under the £120 mark delivered in the UK , I can't see that being very popular so I'm going put the files on Cults3d for a few quid and then people can either home print them or get them pro printed .

Mini Mustang lipo shorty chassis is half test printed , from the pictures you can see the nylock nut for the belt tensioner and an enlargement of the flange to accept a second screw to help secure the nut , battery fitment showing relocation forward by 12mm of the battery and servo , unfortunately they had to move to clear the motor plate , I'm going to finish this test chassis so I can be sure the belt will clear the battery then I'll publish it on Cults3d .Just looking at the pictures it might not have been clear , the new design is screwed to the original for comparison .

Think I've finalised the Mini Mustang chassis for lipo , got it all test printed and I'll fit the transmission tomorrow just to be sure the belt clears , I added another screw to the joint for the two piece design just to tighten it up .

With the transmission in the belt just intrudes into the battery aperture by about 0.5mm at the top rear but clears the bottom it easily clears by about 3mm , the solution is simple ,just lower the aperture by 1mm or 1.5mm , the aperture is taller than the shorty lipo I'm working with anyway so 1mm should be enough.

Just thinking that I recently read an article explaining that squared windows where abandoned on planes as bad for the structure and resulting in more structural issues than rounded windows... That being said, Lipo being generally less weight than NiCad of NiMH packs, it should be fine :)
I buy kits to build and ru(i)n them :-)

All the variant's of the Mini Mustang Chassis are now on Cults3D for the price of a coffee , if you want one printed try Craftclowd , i found a service that would print it in China that would deliver to UK for under £50 , I recon that's a reasonable price point .

It starts to run out of space for a round battery aperture large enough for Lipo , the standard Nicad chassis has a round battery aperture but its much smaller .

Pay attention to the services you use : some are not including the VAT while some does... That makes the things difficult to compare sometimes...

I spotted that , paint can almost double the price too , I looked at one where it was £50 plain or £90 painted black , dying is cheaper but you have to be a little careful .

Started modeling the Mini Mustang diff , the belt mesh is good , the teeth look a bit wooly at the edge in the picture's but its just from the print process where it swells as it touches the bed , the only adjustment needed is to move the screw holes slightly .

I'm going to have a go at modeling the bevel gears as well .
