Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
A few of the cleaner ones from my not as old collection.
This TC1 has to be the rarest for me because in 8 yrs. of hunting ebay I've only come across this one. No clue on turns but looks to be double possibly triple wind. Need to find a plastic case for it.
My favorite off road motor is the Sonic 2. Even though it's not the exact setup like I used to race with this one was clean and priced right.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
These just arrived today.... an original and unused Checkpoint slot armature, an MG one (never come across an MG slot armature before), and a bag of bits and bobs... notable for the slot brush gear hoods and brushes, plus a pair of round heatsinks which are actually designed to be pushed on to the tiny bit of armature shaft which sticks up through the bearing at the endbell end of the motor.
Note the crossed wraps on the Checkpoint one.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Just found the product photo for the very special MIH motor I posted before.
The ad said 30 gramms less weight than an usual Igarashi Modified motor.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Just cleaned this one up, added new bearings and brushes, but kept the gold springs which seem pretty soft. It's a triple wind armature, but not certain how many turns. The armature looks identical to the armature in my Monster Horsepower 1987 World Champion Joel Magic Johnson black can motor, which is 17x3, except this one obviously has a little bit more turns. If I remember correctly one of the armatures that came with these motors was a 19x3, so I have to guess maybe that's what it is.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Rebuilt this Kyosho Le Mans 240S with new bearings, Kyosho LM7 240 springs, Trinity Speed SPEC Brush ID Shunt Dual Face brushes, and a brand new Trinity/Epic 19T single wind armature.
Motor spun 32,700 rpm, 3.25A @ 7.2 volts at 0* deg timing; and 35,400 rpm, 3.5A @ 7.2 volts at 6* deg timing.
Edit- forgot to mention it has a MCI racing repro label.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Just did a little freshening on this one. Cut the comm, rehab the endbell, cleaned the can, new brushes, and oiled the bearings.
While not in great condition (better than the motor was), it came with the original packaging.

Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
This came on a car that I bought a while back.
After tearing into it, I realized that it didn't need much. The comm has never been cut and didn't need more than cleaning. Cleaned everything up, replaced one bearing, new brushes, and a new MCI decal.
And that makes three. None of these were specifically purchased, they all came in lots with other stuff.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Picked this up as part of a bulk buy fairly recently - it was thrown in because it had jammed so was basically a freebie. All it had in it when i stripped it was a grub screw inside which had prevented it spinning.
Label is pretty much perfect. It is a 13 turn Platinum II. What is pretty interesting is that the armature segments have been really well polished, so much so that the red coating comes away very very easily indeed. You can pretty much rub it off. Typical Checkpoint wraps and centrally-aligned balancing are also evident. It now needs a full skim and rebuild with new brushes.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Another saved from the junk pile - this one is a pretty rare MG Power white label Magnum 16quad from early 1987. The can has a few marks but the label is good - they are usually silver labels. Typical Mick soldering and heavy lacquer! The uneven comm wear is explained by the cut brushes! Quite pleased with this one.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Here's a very nice, unused Technigold. I haven't seen one this tidy for a while. I had quite a bit of success with one of these in my SWB Mid when running on short, bumpy grass tracks. Loads of torque and you could really gear it up. Always fancied finding another one, so here it is....

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
To go with the blue label Checkpoint I posted up the other day, here's a silver label 17turn.... i have only just opened this one and will now begin cleaning it up.
I also received a bit of a slot brush care package along with it which was a nice bonus!
