Source for hinge pins?

Post by Frankentruck »

The bummer about building up from parts is that the little stuff holds up projects. Things like E-clip hinge pins. I can probably make some out of steel rod, but if there's a commercial source I'd rather buy them and they will probably be nicer than what I make. I don't really want to pay the eBay $50+ for a $2 set of 10. Anyone know if someone like Grainger or McMaster Carr sells them and what they would be called?

I've only really seen raw pins without grooves on McMaster. I really should make a jig to cut grooves in these things.
Consistency is the key I keep misplacing.

So true! I have a load of Top Cat parts. I honestly believed I could build 2 from scratch and still have enough spares to run them for ages. 8) But when I tried to refurbish my old one, I had to stop several times and wait for cruciforms, e-clips, etc. :?

JC racing in the UK have it on their "In the pipeline" https://www.jcracingproducts.co.uk/in-the-pipeline/projects-in-progress

They seem to be getting everything done more or less on schedule. :D

For the rear inner hinge pins, RPM is selling them (#70590). I actually need those, so that's a good thing. I'll have to watch for the JC Racing production.

Just note that those are the longer ones. Later models (Worlds, late CE and TC, and re-re) used shorter pins.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

Taking a stroll though the rc10talk.com history turned up using shock shafts as hinge pins.

There's a reason i saved all those spent shock shafts over the years....at least now there's a reason.
Consistency is the key I keep misplacing.
