“aftermarket” RC10 gold chassis pan
Sorry if this has already been discussed. I watch this site closely and haven't seen it mentioned but it's possible that I've somehow missed it.
I’ve recently noticed these popping up on ebay – around the time AE announced the 40th. Maybe these have been available for a while? I search ebay daily but it could have escaped my attention.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/235526394804?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D264183%26meid%3D2f60e309417f455cb260d88624106c82%26pid%3D101875%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D355648567925%26itm%3D235526394804%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2332490%26algv%3DSimplAMLv11WebTrimmedV3MskuWithLambda85KnnRecallV1V2V4ItemNrtInQueryAndCassiniVisualRankerAndBertRecallWithVMEV3CPCAutoWithCassiniEmbRecallManual&_trksid=p2332490.c101875.m1851&itmprp=cksum%3A2355263948042f60e309417f455cb260d88624106c82%7Cenc%3AAQAJAAABcLSVkHmTL63bebovD9RfpraPWbY9f4anjbziTIaEIOVXg2DWhVLks3Lfqff9vxxfjIh4XEXusIehlT2iEH8%252BCxXNySMxlDIQJ3g86%252Bx3AAIAq9gznqdGSR72ksP41kjzPN1reUbVsJuld0S4i4qXlQfTmkMeIJTCXTM8mLpr7ju2fMvruDu87ZX%252B4bShOvD%252B4vMLEP9mkZZChKEuFqkcUH5QevLyxeOxgGG3CHxgkFq%252FYhBwLklh29zrcsixmqz1he094%252BUA1NIofg7RT5JkufsLL8u0DAWc5sFLY%252Flc804shqvR0g3UBO76H1aCB0J3xdHaS56M6Bp8I3kzWn8CLsPAg4eFGhjy49Z76mk9PmepbuxFNmlj0DRsTObTwBAw3PXPRcR3YhvIlSSw3Fgsec3ue7B%252FEcDU6M%252B0ChqSTZdNcNjQNhHFtlXvt3ugPI4ehMlwVKKH6xxJxeFFaVrAqNydLOBqL7aAhu9KFbwUun2p%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2332490&itmmeta=01HW5ZW73ZZME9J43JAX3RP7G4
So I’m curious; assuming this part is new to market, is the timing a coincidence and this is an honest attempt by someone to produce a replacement part or is this a dishonest attempt by one of AE’s OEM suppliers to do an end-run around them and push AE’s part direct to market?
Either way, I’m not going to buy one. I’m just curious.
From the photos, it looks very much like a genuine part except the servo mounting screw holes are on the wrong side but that could simply be due to a flipped photo.
The anno color is nice but apparently there's some confusion as to which end of the chassis is the front.
What do you think?

I thought FanRC and at least one other place was working reproducing them. I stopped paying attention when I wound up with too many 2013 gold pans from AE

I was wondering about the same thing when I saw them (have one in my watch list). Could this be the OEM selling direct to the market? Or some OEM chassis leaving out the back door and being sold by an individual. Hmmm.

I don't have much doubt. Looking at the e-bay seller most of the other things they are selling are very different parts.
I do appreciate the photoshop noseplate

Did anyone give AE a heads up about counterfeit chassis being sold on ebay?

Re: “aftermarket” RC10 gold chassis pan
the thing that got people in trouble with Traxxas is not making it clear that they were not produced by Traxxas- this one is pretty clearly marked as aftermarket and says it "fits" the RC10... sure its an exact copy but I wonder what AE could do- look at FanRC selling exact replacement parts. Not saying its right or wrong, just saying...
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

True. Fan RC and the other companies might have permission though.GoMachV wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 10:23 pm the thing that got people in trouble with Traxxas is not making it clear that they were not produced by Traxxas- this one is pretty clearly marked as aftermarket and says it "fits" the RC10... sure its an exact copy but I wonder what AE could do- look at FanRC selling exact replacement parts. Re: “aftermarket” RC10 gold chassis pan
I find nothing wrong with offering replacement parts.
If they are made using tooling that AE owns and without their permission, then obviously that's a problem.

I'm still trying to figure out WTF is up with the nose plate.
And I wish that someone would make a reproduction buggy nose plate.

Reproducing an item doesn't make it a counterfeit. If it did Wal-Mart wouldn't have anything to sell.
Regarding XLR8's curiosity, these chassis' have been for sale for a while, they come and go every couple months. Accounts always short lived, disappear, new ones pop back up. Price seems higher this time (due to the 40th?). Went back and forth last night with the seller... who's been very accommodating... they lowered the price down to $95 and $92 and will negotiate down to $78... should anyone want one.

Anyway, yeah, I got an offer to buy at $92 but I'm not interested.
Still, if one had some spare coin, it might be kinda cool to build an RC10 entirely from aftermarket parts.

Re: “aftermarket” RC10 gold chassis pan
Out of curiosity, I added a ton of fan RC parts into my cart to see what price you could build an “new” RC10 for. With the majority of the stuff you need but still a ton of stuff missing, it was well over $500. It wouldn’t be a budget build that’s for sure.

That makes the 40th anniversary car seem like a bargain.
