Cool, 'm glad to see my old car is in great hands and will be run! It'll be interested to hear how the lexan undertray holds up, but what the hell, give it a shot and enjoy it.

Nice racing there... they should have an "original tamiya grasshopper motors only" class for us retro racers with slower reactions due to 20 years of drinking under our belts!

Yep, I've ran it several times out in the street, but the desire to race all came back. Only thing changed is the addition of the Losi HD(cough, cough) ball cups. I'll give it a few laps to see how the undertray looks, and use additional protection if needed. The front end seems nice and soft, but the rear might need firmed up a bit. -told her that too.

Bob that is a really nice car you have and I bet you will be surprised at how the car runs.

I just started racing myself. Been running SC10 Short bus and doing pretty well. it has taken me a few races to get everything down and now I can hang 1 - 4 in the a main.

Just picked up a discount B4 and still have yet to build it. I plan on getting in the buggy class which is going strong right now.

Good luck with the car and I look forward to hearing about your race day.

Thanks Jake. I'm gonna try to get a few pics and video to see how bad my driving is. :?
Hopefully I can pull off some good laps to silence the un-believers.

Huh, was I in for a treat... Combining not having turned a lap on a track in 20+ years, with a car that just would not turn= long night...
Front tires were rubbing under full compression, figured that out. Smashed my new Buds wing within minutes(know why they are 1 piece now). Broke 3 ball studs. Lost a front axle. Even though this wasn't a full race prepped car, I was atleast hoping for a few decent laps which did happen out of all of the bad ones. Still had a good time seeing how everything is now in the hobby. Car did go over the jumps good when I handled it right, but I think they were geared more for the sc trucks being as steep as they are. Didn't get any pics from wrenching the whole night. Tried a 10.5 brushless that really woke the car up coming from a 17.5. Luckily the car came away unscathed without a scratch. The lexan undertray worked great.
All in all, I think the gold pan can compete with the newer cars with a REALLY good driver. The B4's just seemed more graceful over the jumps and turned on a dime. I'm going to build a gold pan to race without worrying about scratching it up and get some very much needed practice.

Don't worry Bob, the first night back after all that time is going to be tough for anybody. :D Glad you had a good time. Maybe we can meet up there or at REO sometime and turn some laps together. The next time you go out you will do twice as well. It's not quite like riding a bike, but it will come back to you. Took me a solid 3 months to be competitive when I got back in after a loooong 15 year break. At least you didn't destroy that beautiful buggy. 8)

Sounds good thumbs. PT was a pretty nice little track with a really well stocked shop. Didn't care much for the cig smoke though, but no biggie. Need to check out REO too.

Hey Bob, sorry to hear it was a rough night but it sounds similar to my experiences trying to manage my own car, the Slash of my 6 year old son, and trying to learn all the things I am doing wrong compared to the competitive guys.

What happened with the front axle??

Don't think I'm gonna run this exact car anymore(just too nice), but one similar with well used parts to try different things.

I wish I had video of losing the front wheel Adam, it drew a big OHH from the guys at the end of the track after the car landed from the second set of doubles and the front wheel flew straight off! Nothing broke, just the axle and wheel came out. E clip was in place I know so I guess the set screw in the axle was loose and allowed the e-clip to pop off. Stuck it back together and was good to go.

It was good to see a lot of interest from others in this old gold car. I was hoping it would spark a few others to get the bug too.
