Converting 6 gear trans 32p to 48p, internals need changing?

So I have been reading a lot of tips on how to upgrade the 6 gear trans and I noticed if I want to run 48p spur gear that people change out the internals to work with a 48p setup. Is changing the internals necessary or is it to help altogether run smoother? Thanks

You can run 48p or 64p spur and leave the internals as they are with no issues.

Spur gears are external and have no effect on the internal performance of the gearbox, however, there were 48p internal gear upgrades for the 6-gears as well as 64p upgrades for the Stealth. Those replace the internal idler gears with finer pitch gears for smoother running.

I'm running 48p spur on my six gears with no problem at all.

Will this Robinson Racing spur work on a six gear? The diff ball holes are different to the #6634 spur. SUPER_SPUR.png

Also, RJSpeed makes a direct fit gear for the 6gear RC10. As far as pinions go, just add half-again asmany teeth to make a corresponding size (ex.- 14 in 32pitch = 21 in 48pitch).

What's the durability like on them? I picked up a couple basket case goldpans and to my supprise both transmissions have 48p gear sets in them.. I was thinking of using one set in my 6-gear runner 2s lipo with a 13t brushed motor. Think it would...

I have seen some of the outdrives eventually get rounded out where the bone rubs. I have also seen that on some rear axles, so I assume it's not strictly related to the hardening on the thorp stuff. Otherwise, the gears are nice and smooth.

First question, if I picked up the idlers, how long would it take to source the outdrive gears and top shaft gears? Just looking for a ballpark guess. Am I looking at 6 months, 2 years, NEVER? Which peices seem to be the rarest - top, idlers, or...

HI!... O.k I just freshly rebuilt mt 1st 6 gear trans for my Graphite RC10. I very carefully deburred all the steel gears. I'm running new (black) idler gears. I'm running full ball bearings including replacing the felt rings with sealed ball...
