Hand cleaner ( like goop ) without pumice. Coat them and let them sit for a day or so, wipe off and its done.

Like Swarfega? I only have the heavy duty stuff, might give it a go anyway. Is the normal stuff good for nylon parts (white)?Charlie don't surf wrote:Hand cleaner ( like goop ) without pumice. Coat them and let them sit for a day or so, wipe off and its done.

Appreciate the help chaps

Re: Remove rust without damaging finish
I just finished redoing some tie rod and dog bones. I put up some pic soon. Sand then clean, pick up some gun blueing and some past wax (minwax) . I did 2 coats of blueing , let dry over night then put a good coat of past wax and let dry 15-20 min. rub out with soft cloth and add a 2nd coat of wax and let dry, rub that out and your done. the wax will mellow out the blueing and help stop rust from comming back

Want to re black them? Take a torch and heat them to cherry red- drop them in transmission ATF fluid- instant hardened steel, and black to boot.fakiee wrote:Yep, thats sounds like it could have workedLowgear wrote:I think what you were after was rust converter instead of remover. Oh well too late now. Still, I think the end result looks ok:

Any risk of deformation or fire when they hit the fluid. I forgot, but I actually have a set of those rods that look a bit rough.Charlie don't surf wrote:Want to re black them? Evaporust, Harbor Freight sells it. The stuff works miracles on rusty full size car parts.
