"Old Faithful" - RC10LSO graphite

I bought this car brand new in 1995. It has been raced on a carpet oval with a Nastruck body, run on 10 cells as a drag/speed car, and bashed around parking lots, and it just keeps going. I put it away for a while, stumble across it again, get it running, move on to something else, and the cycle repeats. Other cars come and go, but this one seems to have staying power. It has been in storage for a few years because I didn't have a place to run on-road cars, but I think it might be time to revive it yet again.



Needs running gear, new tires, and maybe one of those HPI muscle car bodies... I see they do a '70s Firebird now...

Awesome! Can't wait to see what you do with it! I've redone a few of these in the last month or so. With a little time it could look like brand new again too!

Well, I just couldn't bear to see this thing sitting on the shelf any more, so yesterday I stuck some electronics in and went for a spin in the driveway...



With the brushless motor and those old dry Bolink tires, "spin" was the operative word. But if I rolled on the throttle carefully, it took off like a shot, and at least it did donuts evenly in both directions, so I know it isn't tweaked. Thank the lightweight LiFe battery pack for that, I guess, It weighs the same as the ESC and receiver combined.

I think I like this motor in this car. Now I just need to fabricate a battery holder for the LiFe pack, and get a body. Leaning towards the new HPI '78 Firebird, but not in black. Might paint it gold, and recreate some Rockford Files maneuvers...

Good to see another running RC10L, if you do not have tire treatment you could try the old suntan lotion trick to give the old foams a bit of bite.

Nice! That's the Bolink body, right? I need to get one of those and do a replica of my old Nova. It was a '78, slightly newer bodystyle, but close enough. Have to figure out how to do a vinyl top, though...

Yeah that's the 70 nova SS. My nova was a 69 non ss but hey, close enough in lexan!

Both of those cars are nice! I was going to get rid of my 10 but after seeing these I think I've changed my mind. I had a 68 Chevy Nova when I was a teenager. It was blue with a 327 and Powerglide automatic. Wish I still had her.

Lots of nova people here my mother still has her 72 that she bought brand new. Had the Camaro style high back seats which apparently was a rare-ish option.

sits kinda high in the back...kinda like the 80's when guys bought airshocks and made their 1:1 cars look like doorstops. But, build it like you want. I'm more of a leveled but lowered kinda guy and its just my opinion

Yeah, I thought it looked a little too much like it had air shocks. Last night I lowered it at both ends, so it still has a little rake, but not much. The wheelbase is a hair off, and the rake and the big rear tires hide the difference. I need a little clearance for the tires; I hate the thought of hacking open the wheel wells. I'm wondering if I could heat it up and bow out the rear fenders just enough to clear. I only need 1/4" or less on each side.

You could probably turn 1/8" off the rear tires and it would sit lower, be a little less hot wheels, and then fit the body better too.
