I looked and looked for new seals and they are just too high. I looked around here and saw someone's car with bearing then the guys here told me the size and I got bearings for $4.48 shipped...ebay

Any tips for installing the bearings in the housing? Read the transmission mod but seems odd to use only one screw to keep bearing in place. Also read posts about gluing them in. What type of glue and do you apply it around the top once bearing is pushed in place?

The bearing elimination mod only uses a screw on one side because the bearing on the other side is held in by the motor plate.

skip the glue, seems cheezy .. i do a small screw with washer.. thats more then enough to keep the bearing in. you dont need the bearing or screw its just a race mod. most people dont do the screw mod the dogbone will keep the bearing from falling out. i ran 6gears for years without outdrive bearings but if i rebuild a 6 gear now i use all bearings inside trans and outdrives with the screw mod

After reading the various replies I got in my search for the felt seals, I did the smart thing and went with the bearings! I was able to find them at my LHS, but I needed different ones for the rear stub axle carriers and I found them at Avid bearings. They have just about any size you need and they are reasonably low priced.

If you're going to put the bearings into the outdrive holes then maybe you might want to modify the tranny to free it up, this is a cool article which outlines what modifications will reduce friction and let it spin freely.
