No differential in stealth tranny

So I'm just wondering what your opinions are on making the outdrives and the differential one solid unit in the stealth transmission. So just one piece. There wont be a differential but just a gear with outdrives.

This would be done with all the gears being metal. It would end with the weak point being the spur which ill be putting a vts or triad slipper on to lessen the force.

again, just curious about this. I'm not throwing money at the idea yet.

what are you trying to do with the vehicle?
like scr8p said, it won't turn well at all but would make a good drag racer or puller.

Well...if you were going to run it on loose dirt or sand exclusively then it would be okay but anything else and it's going to put a lot of strain on the drivetrain plus wear out your tires faster. And as it was already pointed out, it would take a lot to turn

I think ill do a quick design of this and send it out when i send the bulkhead out. only one track in my area and its dirt lol.

For track driving, even on dirt, some diff action is beneficial. If you find yourself diffing out a lot, my suggestion would be to tighten down the ball diff to decrease the action.

If you're running oval, you could glue the diff and use stagger to help with turning, like RCCA did with their killer streey buggy:

To do it a little more eloquently you could drill the ball holes to the size of traxxas slipper pegs and use them instead of balls. Then you wouldn't be gluing or pinching plastic to lock it up

i always liked that article, i really liked the way they had that sprint car wing mounted on springs so it "auto adjusted" as you drove it. if you could dave could you post that article, i think i got rid of my copy that i had. it was a wild car and i think everyone else would get a kick out of seeing that car, it was associated's version of an oswego super mod.

I bought a team car about a year ago with a locked diff. I had hoped that they had just CA'd the outdrives to the diff gear but nope, they epoxied it together! I still haven't figured out how to get it apart. It's a good set of outdrives too is what really makes it hurt!

Silly putty is often recommended for locking an RC diff. It's non-permanent, easy to remove, and won't damage parts.

I've been wondering for awhile now how a 6-gear oval car would drive if you put those pegs in the diff and ran staggered tires.

hawgfanman, if you don't care about the insides of the diff and gear, just the outdrives, you can probably put it in a toaster oven about 300-350 and it should break down the epoxy, or soften it enough to get it apart. probably do this in the garage or somewhere outside.
