WOIN RC10 Sprinter... with "modern" electronics

Post by SoAzRC »

Thought I'd post my latest dirt oval sprint car. It is an old RC10 sprint conversion of unknown variety (anyone who recognizes the cage, I'd appreciate knowing make). To run on a regular basis at my local track, I've added RPM arms, B4 hub, carriers and spindles, TC3 threaded shocks, Novak Ballistic 10.5T and GTB2 ESC, and Lipo 5000/50. After tearing the center out of an old diff gear on the first race night, I rebuilt the 2.25 with all new internals and bearings. Except for adding front end weight, this baby is set-up like "back in the day". Body is predominately hand formed .040 lexan except for the McCallister hood and nose. I went for the older "Don Edmunds modified" look with the smaller spolier and the square tank. It handles very nicely on the 180' loose dirt oval I run and will replace my vintage Cobra DD Nemesis (to hard to keep up on parts).

Love it! The body is a nice alternative to the norm and really turned out nice!

I would really like to idebtify the cage, unless it is just someone's handbuild. Here's a photo during construction of the unbodied chassis:

RCRC/Ascot Challenger.

Looks great with the old-timey small wing and boxy rear. ;)

I've got an Ascot and didn't think this was the same. The side nerfs attach to the cage with a slip-in stub. Do you happen to have one of these with a photo? I'd be happy to hear that it is an RCRC Ascot...

Ascot made a couple of different cages...I don't remember the name of the other version that had a cage like a BBT sprinter but I remember the Challenger because it has a main cage more like my RBS Super Sprint Car.

I guess what threw me off a little was the front wing mounts. The Ascot I have has small stubs coming up from the cross bar to mount the forward edge of the top wing. This chassis just has tapped holes...

I too have the same sprint car cage and rear bumper and nerf bars.lol I made a sweet alloy chassis since the fiberglass one was shortened too much by someone by time i found it.Ive had to cut up and rc10 specific body to make one for this car.Now to figure out how to secure without body posts stickn out.DON

Alloy chassis would add too much weight for oval racing (IMO)... as far as the body goes, I hand folded .040 lexan for everything except the hood (with scoop) and nose piece. Side panels are notched and slotted over cage and secured with one 4-40 screw. The hood pivots on another pair of screws and the nose holds it in place with one body pin. As a suggestion, you can use velcro to attach without body clips...

Cant seem to find fiberglass sheets here and its gonna sit on a shelf anyhow lol.
And where the shocks mount to the cage on rear i made the alloy spacer to mount them up instead the tower in the rear. And where the top tapped holes are i made two spacers for there also to hold the huge wing i have.DON
