Dialed Racing Lightning - Need info

Post by highwayracer »

hello All,

I'm looking for some information on a car sold by Dialed Racing called the Lightning. I'm almost 100% sure that this was manufactured by another company and sold/rebadged by Dialed Racing in the US. The only information I have is a flyer that I picked up at the hobby show in the late 80's early 90's.

I would like to know who manufactured the car. I remember the car had orange wheels...if that helps.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I always assumed it was one of the knock off rigs like the beagle was to the optima, but I didn't notice before it said belt drive. That wasnt very common on 2wd of that era besides the Hirobo Tomcat and Schumacher Top Cat and it doesn't resemble those. Hmmm

I´ve seen the rims before...
Are they specific for this car? or just 3rd party supplier?

This has an interesting set of features: Belt Drive, Sealed Gear case and Aluminum Frame?

Unless someone knows of it specifically it's gonna be hard to pin down. Did you try calling the phone number ;)
I miss brushed motors in that hazy, everything seemed better when I was a kid, kind of way.

Erik (MR.ED) had some on his ultima build. I asked him about the wheels a few years ago, but he didn't remember what car they came off of.

I think there was one on ebay 3-5 years ago. It didn't have the wheels or body. I though it was also some knock off...which it may be, but after researching the European cars, it may have been a legitimate car that was just re-branded for the US market.

One of the reasons I'm researching, is because there are parts of a gas car currently listed that reminded me of that other chassis. If the company made a 2wd electric and nitro, then there may be more to that company. And they may have been a legitimate contender at some time.

This post: http://www.rctech.net/forum/california-racing/496625-arc-raceway-presents-spring-shootout-series.html mentions Dialed Racing Products as a prize sponsor. Wondering if you could contact the OP & see if they may still be around in some form.
The preceding contained opinions, beliefs and thoughts that all may not agree with. No offense was intended at any point. Carry on.

Jay Dub wrote:Ah Yes, here in the states it was distributed by Dialed Racing Products. It was called the Lightning. I ran for them for several years, and did som R&D on that car. The one pictured was an earyl version because the tranny/motor plate is backward. THey quickly changed it after I told them they would never be able to sell it that way  . The belt was too long in the tranny, and skipped like crazy. The shocks are poor in quality, but work rather nicely, and are "Big Bore" style. And yes, those are the stock rims. -Jeff

Looks like they're big into 1/8 scale gas. They were the company that produced the Tempo which was sold under the OFNA brand in the early years. I'm definitely going to try to get this car into my collection.
