Re: Finally found a Mid SE. (Project)
What's the plan? I've had one for years in a suspended state of restoration. I need new belt covers and a few gaskets but have made no effort to find any of it. I need a body too I think. I should really dig it out and double check.
Re: Finally found a Mid SE. (Project)
Sounds like we should make one car out of the 2;)
I'll just start picking up parts so I can rebuild it probably next winter
My winter projects are lining up nicely, Mid, Lazer, Scorp etc

Damn...looks like somebody turned it into a monster truck Mid--albeit in very ghetto fashion.
Should clean up really nice, though! Restore it to its former glory!

Yeah the previous owner did that when he was MUCH younger
I will rebuild it though, the hunt for parts begins !

Looks like platinum shocks all around. I really like mids. Theres a guy in UK who had all kinds of parts for the shocks, and NOS proper brown belt covers. id vintage kyosho, from the bay.

Mids are really awesome, and underappreciated in my opinion. I have one restored and one in about the same state as yours. The front bumper is the pricey part on these! Good luck with your project, looks fun!

I dont think mids are underapreciated. just look at all the build threads.
The MId to me is the turning point in 4wd buggies. flat chassis and top plate vs ladder frames and tubs. By far my favorite vintage rc.
If your going to restore it as a runner make sure you seal the gearbox and belt covers as any dirt or pebbles will eat up the center gear which btw is is the mids achilles. you might want to invest in a spare delrin or aluminum one as the stock is pretty weak.
Also you might want to swap out the platinums as they are prone to leak out the shaft due to very tiny o-rings inside them. They were an inovative design that allowed the dampening to adjusted by a hollow shaft and core shaft that would loosen or tighten the piston by turning the spring cup.
I think fireboy123 sells the o-rings so if you rebuild them they should be ok. you can use standard traxxas rtr shock bladders in them as well.
great project and great cars. keep the build going and keep us posted.

Re: Finally found a Mid SE. (Project)
Plan for this guy is not going to involve running as I am building a Lazer for that role
The Mid will just be rebuilt to sit on my shelf.

Re: Finally found a Mid SE. (Project)
probably a good place to ask this. Ive got a restored mid se with the msc. I assume they used a different body than the standard mid with a longer roof line in order to clear the sealed rotory stlye msc vs the pcb style. I can see that the part numbers for the se body differs from the standard mid so I guess that is what they did. some input into this and what others have experienced would be appreciated and might help the op too when it comes time to get a body. I have an original mid body and it does not clear where the winshield slopes up to the roof.
Re: Finally found a Mid SE. (Project)
In the manuals I have seen the part number for the SWB Mid, be it original Mid, Turbo Mid or SE is OT-106 what part number have you seen for the SE body?

Re: Finally found a Mid SE. (Project)
I thought Kyosho molded a bit of a bulge in one of the windows to clear the msc. Otherwise, they are the same body.

I think so too, it's in the aftermarket Mid body I chose for the OptiMutt car as well.HKS_TRD wrote:I thought the bulge was in all the bodies

Re: Finally found a Mid SE. (Project)
It seems that I was mistaken and the body part numbers are the same. the mid se uses a sealed black plastic rotory MSC compared to the pcb board style. the wires attach using spade connectors and these hit the windshield and prevent the body from sitting properly. I'm pretty sure its the correct msc and was thinking maybe someone else has encountered this issue. I will post pics when I get the chance. I dont want to hijack this thread so its no biggie
