Quick and easy display stand

Post by romulus22 »

For a long time I hated displaying cars on blocks to keep the weight off the tires. I like the look of the car sitting on its own weight.

Just something I threw together out of some extra material. Just and idea for anyone who is like me and prefers the look of the car sitting on its suspension but not on its tires.

I don't have nearly that many cars. And the rest can live on blocks. I just wanted to support my favorite truck by its suspension so the wheels aren't all droopy.

Yes, and your wheels are dropped down. His are held at ride height. If you don't like it, move along

HI!... It's not that I like it or dislike it. I just think it's better to let the suspension hang. Tires don't get flat spots, and the springs don't get relaxed. Also keep leak prone shocks from leaking IMO.

Here's a previous thread where we discussed ideas on how to display our cars:

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=19521

And here's my idea, I found these small rectangular acrylic containers that I stuck on some strips of rubber tape. I think they were a buck each. Cheap, looks good, almost no work required. :)

As far as ride height goes, my cars don't look much different whether resting on the suspension or letting it hang. Old cars didn't have much in the way of droop. :)

What about hanging them? I was worried about flat spotting the tires, so I used "U" style hooks screwed to the wall.

The two hooks that protrude out from the wall go under the front arms and hold it flush to the wall.

I used this method because shelf space is tight, and they are up and out of the way.

Some of you might even recognize some them.

My GT is the only car I really want to "display", ill be using the peg idea and making a better looking base, stained wood with routed edges. I just think I put so much time into this one car it deserves better than a styrofoam block. And as mentioned earlier. I don't like the way the trucks look with their suspension at full droop.

Great idea. The simple ones are always best. You could make variants of this design 100 different ways. I was thinking you could do a wood base and drill holes and basically insert pegs. you could inset a mirror into the base to show off that scratch-free chassis as well. making the pegs different lengths could even give it an action stance. you could even put some rubber caps on the pegs to make em hold better and not mar the arms.

Here's another idea I just thought of I don't recall seeing in any pictures. The main reason I like nitro cars is I like the look of a nitro engine and pipe. Just has a cool mechanical look to it. After you put a fancy painted body on there all that gets hidden. Here's my solution to display both the body and chassis. (As you can see I'm still settling after my move and don't have the majority of my cars on blocks yet)
