Tidy or Messy ?

Post by RC10th »

Are you tidy or a slob?

Are you the type of person that always puts everything back where it belongs or do you have 10 different projects spread throughout the house?

I'd say I'm a slob but I just started a MASSIVE clean up, I'm tired of having stuff everywhere. I've been trying to wind down my RC habit for a while and feel this is the next step. All my projects are nearing an end and I'd like to consolidate everything and set up a dedicated work station. I started at 5:30pm today and finished up at about 11pm. I've made a good dent but still have a ways to go.

Hi RJ,

I alternate sometimes things get really messy, then I can't stand it anymore so I make a effort to

tidy things up. :!:

I try to get organized, only a week ago I could barely get in the door of my hobby room.

What a difference a week makes. :!:

Cheers, Dave. :)

I'm generally very tidy I have to admit. I'll let things get messy for a bit, but then I have an overwhelming urge to clean things up. In fact most things I don't even let get messy. My basement is the only exception, but that's because it's mostly a crawlspace with just one small area that's concrete so it's really only good for storage. That's the only reason I let it get cluttered for a while.

When I'm in high gear on a build, a tornado going through my house would be more tidy.

i go through cycles. I get working on projects, and tools and parts and material keep getting pushed back on the bench until it pushes back and I am left with a couple inch wide work space, I institute a cleanup, and repeat the process.

Somewhere in-between, actually. Cluttered, but not messy. I like to have tools and things easily accessible, so I'm not fond of putting things "away", but everything has its place. The trouble I have is that if someone else comes in and moves something, I'll spend forever trying to find it.

I don't let junk or scraps accumulate, though. I really like to clean that stuff up as I go.

Slob but trying to get better :)

Frankly the 8' work bench has been buried since I finished the kids GTE and I've been working at the dining room table..

Upside to that is I HAVE to clean up right when I finish whatever I'm doing that day.

Friday is my day off and I plan to make a big dent in the shop situation so I can start working on the Team GT, repair the Yokomo and pick up all the little bits of Suzuki laying all over the garage.

I'm a neat freak, especially when it comes to this hobby. 8)

I always put all my tools and parts back when I'm done using them.

Most of my stuff has to be in perfect order, tools, parts, whatever. This is what I like but not always what I achieve. Right now my garage is a total mess, and my new man cave is a little disorganized! I just need to get some shelves and show cases up.

My mess problem usually starts with doing to many projects at the same time.

Organized chaos! It looks like a bomb went off, but I know where everything is usually.

"Honey, don't step on anything - it might be important"

Seriously - I have everything in a place and I can usually find it but its not pretty. I try to work on one project at a time but its tough to finish even one thing before my attention span wanders and I want to do something else. So that usually means a few parts lying around beside a vehicle that's waiting for something.
