Re: NomadRacer's Small Things
Now, I'm out of cutting fluid and need to sharpen my grooving cutters...or replace them.

Re: NomadRacer's Small Things
I might just call those thumbscrews "practice". Taking your advice and knurled some rods this afternoon.Coelacanth wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2017 4:35 pm I'd probably knurl or somehow texture those thumbscrews...if they got on too tight, you wouldn't be able to get a grip and would probably have to use a pliers or something to loosen them.
For a shelfer, it wouldn't matter, of course.

You've got some pretty cool parts going on. It looks like you take your time and really enjoy what you are doing.

Re: NomadRacer's Small Things
Time to bring "small things" back to life.
I'm needing a pair of short, 1/4" dia., 4-40 threaded body posts for a current build.
I started out with a piece of 1/4" 1061-T6 aluminum rod. After facing the end off I measure up where I want the hole to be and drill a 1/16" dia. hole. Stay tuned, more to come in the next 24 hours!

Thanks Mark. I enjoy the time on the lathe... only do it when I feel the mojo rising
Not sure what you want to see from "behind the scenes". Let me know and I'll see what I can do.

This is what I came up with this morning, may adjust, may not, depends on how the day goes! Maybe @lavigna will stop by for a look.

Haha, yeah I hear you, and I guess I worded that statement a bit odd. I just wanted to see some pics of the lathe you use. I am interested in purchasing a hobby lathe in the future, I just don't know much about themNomadRacer wrote: ↑Sat Mar 10, 2018 9:47 amThanks Mark. Keep up the good work, and keep the pics of small things coming!

Re: NomadRacer's Small Things
Those are .015" width x .060" deep grooves in the spacer. I use an A.R. Warner brand grooving and cut off tool. It has high speed steel inserts in three widths, .015", .031" and .062". Each insert has two cutting edges so when one end gets dull, flip it around! The set comes with one insert holder, all three inserts sizes, two spare insert screws and a T-9 wrench, all in a foam padded plastic case. The set goes for about $105.00 plus shipping. This is where I got mine: https://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3572&category=202639332
For ease of use I have three sets on quick change tool holders. I cut grooves in Delrin, Brass, Aluminum, Steel, and yes, even Titanium.
