Kyosho 240S ESC??
Any opinions on the Kyosho 240S ESC? - https://www.kyoshoamerica.com/LE-MANS-240S-ESC60AMAX-135T_p_24813.html
I'm jumping into brushless motors and lipo for the first time with my Rocky project. I'm planning on using this motor until (hopefully) the 480 comes out - https://www.kyoshoamerica.com/LE-MANS-240S-Brushless-Motor-195T_p_24811.html
I'm interested in that ESC because it appears to have reverse, which would be good for the "Just messing around" that I would do with the Rocky. But since it's currently unavailable and I don't have experience with the new electronics, I was wondering if there's another, possibly cheaper option for a reversing brushless ESC.

Re: Kyosho 240S ESC??
I do not know anything bout it, but looks very cool!
I would totally install one of those in my Optima!
- I entered my info on the Kyosho America website to be on the "Waitlist".
- Do you know of any other websites where this ESC is in stock?
By The Way - comparing the two 240S motors, the 19.5t is a higher KV than the 15.5t ??
- Would that be a mistake?

Re: Kyosho 240S ESC??
For just messing about the Turnigy TrackStar 80 amp ESS from Hobby King would work fine .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Re: Kyosho 240S ESC??
BTW: Those of us who are hoping for the Le Mans 480* motors to be sold individually, or have the Fantom Rere on order, might be interested to know the Le Mans ESC came with red, blue, and green labels so you can match it to your motor.

Re: Kyosho 240S ESC??
I have several of the Kyosho 240S esc's. I have one in my re-re Turbo Scorpion, Beetle & Optima. In each of those I was ok with the 13.5 turn limit. I've also built a re-re Javelin, Turbo Optima & Ultima but wanted lower turn motors in those.
The Turbo Scorpion & Beetle have the Kyosho 15.5 turn LeMans motors while the Optima has a Hobbwing Quicrun 13.5 turn motor.
I'm a 46 year old back-yard basher looking to re-capture a bit if 1986 when I was 12 & could only afford a Tamiya Hornet. I do not need a ton of custom programmable race-ready features & look for quality & simplicity. I, too, always engage reverse due to my bashing nature. Following are my take-aways of the 240S in no particular order:
1. Beautiful finish
2. Small footprint & small overall size make it easy to install
3. Kind of expensive compared to esc's of similar specs
4. All-metal housing acts as 1 big heatsink...no fan required
5. Simple to program
6. Seems to be on backorder as often as it is available
Another nice thing about the 240S that you don't see mentioned much is that it has two small threaded holes in the bottom of the case. This allows you to attach it with screws is you wish. You may not want to drill holes in an original Rocky, but I couldn't care less about the re-re's. I hate, hate, hate dirty servo tape with grass sticking out around the edges of my electronics. The threaded holes make for a nice secure option...did I mention I hate servo tape?
FWIW, I was watching a YouTube video last night and saw that the 240S is actually the same esc as the Performa Racing P1 (# PA9345) except the Performa is red instead of chrome. The Performa is also about 1/2 the cost, however, it seems to be on backorder at the moment as well. I intend to order one as soon as they are available to see for myself if it is really the same esc.
To the original poster, I would say go the 240S esc if you are leaning towards it. It's nice to have Kyosho power in a Kyosho vehicle, however, I would suggest the 15.5 turn Le Mans in your Rocky: https://www.kyoshoamerica.com/LE-MANS-240S-Brushless-Motor-155T_p_24812.html
Kyosho recommends the 15.5 turn motor in 4wd vehicles. I am pleased with it in the 2wd Turbo Scorpion & Beetle as well.

I was just going to post the same thing, a friend sent me the same RC Kicks video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJVRVS7Csjw&feature=youtu.be&t=144
I am likely ordering the LeMans ESC for my Fantom (If A-Main ever gets them

Re: Kyosho 240S ESC??
Forgot about this thread.
I've gotten a couple of short runs with my Le Mans ESC/Motor setup and it's been fun! The braking gets weak at slow speeds, but is nice and strong at speed. The reversing scheme gets a little awkward to use because reverse has no braking, so you end up with a delay to go forward again. But that's only really been a nuisance, so far.
I'm still fiddling around with how I'm laying out the electrics and mounts in my Rocky, so it's bound to change. But attached is what it looks like since the dog caught it. I used those threaded holes to bolt it to a mounting plate I 3D printed that also has a washer for the chassis adjustment screw on the rear gearbox. When I get a battery carrier and rear body mount that works, I was thinking I'd try to replace that plate with one that has a more positive chain adjustment method.
For my "Chew Toy" car, I may look into the performa, so thanks for that info. But I may also want to go hotter than 13.5 on that car, which I gather puts me in "Forward-only" territory.

Thanks for recommending this: I was back to thinking about ESC's and wanted a less expensive option than the 240S/Performa for my "Chew Toy".

Re: Kyosho 240S ESC??
I have the Le Mans ESC with the 15.5T motor but my Turbo Optima re-re is painfully slow.
