Making a new transmitter donut

Post by RC10th »

I thought I'd have some fun today and make a transmitter donut out of a foam tire blank.

Time to bust out the old Cobra tire lathe. I haven't used this thng in years. It's quite a basic machine but does the job.

Nothing beats nostalgia

I couldn't seem to find any 1/12 rims but I managed to find a mini sized rim that I thought would work, luckily it was perfect. The first thing I did was trim it down to the correct width

Truing tires is a messy process, the foam dust gets everywhere. More time is spent cleaning it up then the actual process.

Bye bye old decrepit donut.....

And there you have it, one nice new donut.

It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas
Factory Works website

Thanks, it's not a hard job, just messy and time consuming. While I had a quick look to see what was still commercially available I decided I'd make my own like the old days. The old foam one that was on the radio was complete garbage. Regardless, it was fun breaking out the old equipment and making something with it  The things we do to patch up old vintage crap
