Project idea for Doc?

Post by Doc J33P »

Hey guys,

I have an odd question but thought I would ask you all what YOU think I should do here.

Basically I want a buggy that I can run for the fun of it. I have all of my shelf queens and kings but I want a runner.

I would love to know what Losi you all think I should build that can handle a brushless setup. Something almost vintage but maybe not, maybe an XX or newer.

I am open to any suggestions like buy one off ebay or build one like I have done before. I like ideas as to what is better in the Older Losi line and what to avoid. Or maybe I should stay away from brushless/Lipo in general.

In general I just want a runner that is faster than snot and new enough to not worry about finding rare parts.

I see all of these builds and am kind of lost. Please post ideas for me as I appreciate it. I haven't built/ran/raced a runner since '93 - a buggy that is.

Thanks.
Jon

definitely look into a used buggy on ebay, you should be able to find nice ones for a decent price, seems like with a lot of spares, etc. I would say the later xxx buggies would be suitable and still have decent spare parts availability.

with the new '22' buggy, I bet you will be seeing any racers that used older losi equipment to start stepping up, and flipping the old equipment on the 'bay and places like rctech

I think you should get a DuraTrax Evader Pro EP BX Prebuilt w/Clear Body; basically a repro'ed XX ... oops no longer on sale???
Ok, other line of thinking: this is brand new but has the looks and feel of the ol' hotshot: Arrma Raider

Let's hope they find a dealer soon

I had a XX4 with a Brushless it wasnt a good mix. you could hear the belt slipping it made a terrible noise from 50 feet away.

That's awesome, I think you meant "terrible" but that word works just as good!

Can a xxx4 handle the lipo/brushless combo?

I really just want a fast and semi-controllable buggy that I can thrash on the local BMX track or the streets when bored.

XXX4's can handle BL no problem. They can be made to go fast too. BUT taking the XXX4 to the BMX track (large jumps) might not be such a good idea. Gravity + speed + large unmovable objects will break a XXX4 everytime.

LOL, I am betting so. I have a Mugen 1/8 Nitro that I could use but I really don't like Nitro too much. I have not run it much. Hmmm, need to sell that now that I think about it.

A BMX track is the closest thing I have to track/dirt fun other than camping and trail running which is boring. I am not looking to destroy a nice car. I do want to be able to take it off some sweet jumps though (Napoleon).

why not convert the mugen to brushless?

bigger wheels, stronger parts, sounds perfect for a bmx track, especially compared to a 1/10th vintage buggy.
