JRX series set up discussion
In building my JRX series car, I thought I would tap the knowledge of us all and start a set up discussion.
Rather than this shock piston/oil/spring, these camber link positions...I would rather talk about what changes you did and the result, then we can all test/learn our own set ups and how to adjust the car to fit your personal driving style/track. Gearing discussions welcome as well.
First a few questions:
H arm rear mount, they come numbered 1-2-3-4, but for the life of me, I dont remember what the differences were. So lets start there

id say these are different rear toe values... the higher ones the more stability butthr harder it is to recover when the ar gets loose... lower toe gives a harder car to drive but less scrubbing speed.

I remember when I got my first production JRX and Rick Hohwart still had his Prototype and hadn't gotten the new produciton parts yet. We were at the Regionals in AZ 1988 Region 12 if I remember. Not sure if it changed or not. It was the qualifier for the 1989 Worlds. We were cleaning our cars and I started measuring parts and saw that the prototype lower links were a little shorter than the production ones. I put his proto lower on the front and put my prod lower on the rear and that gave us more toe in. Stupidly I told the Losi guys at the track the next day and they did the same. Cars all got better traction and they all did better that day and Jack Johnson beat me for the last spot on the USA team. Guess I should have waited till after i guess...lol. So after the race they got the proto mold out and made a run of lower arms and sold them as toe in options for the car till the A arm car came out. Just a little story from back in the day.

Well I have all three the stock Losi se tower came in two different thickness's, the Composite craft was a different material and a little thicker than the thicker Losi one, then the Jammin one by far the niceest one it is THICK about as thick as all of the others put together! when i was looking at the Jammin, it appears to not have as many camber link holes. is the composite craft & losi identical (other than material)?

yes its just a better fiberglass. and it has 3 shock and 3 camber holes just like the stock. if you need any of the above let me know. I bought 5 of the Jammin kits, and just took the CC one off. it is not scuffed up on the top. I like the Jammin one the best, the other two flex to much

Jammin' J-550 steering enhancement kit was a bundle of parts: front shock tower, monster truck? hub carriers and some washers. They were meant to work together better with softer front springs than original Losi Pro SE parts. Below is scan from vintagelosi.com page about this kit. here are the towers the first one is the Jamin, the middle is a composte Craft, stock Losi from the front their all the same. the Losi one also comes the same with as the Composite craft one. I guess they did a mid year change or something but I have opened nip Losi towers and some are thick and some are thin, with the same packageing.

Rick, are the camber link holes all the same? I thought the Jammin has 2 and the other have 3?

i have noticed you can still get the optional shorter rear link arm easily on ebay, but i havent seen the original links in quite a while. after rereading this, i checked my buggy, yep 4 of the optional shorter links...dug through my parts, 2 original links found crossing fingers, i should be hitting the track tomorrow night for the first time, just gotta glue up some fresh rubber and pray i have close to a decent set up for racing. i hate to admit, but i will have the 22 ready as a back up. i know it has a great set up for the track i am going to. next weekend is a toys for tots benefit race, i hope to shake down the JRX enough to be competitive in that race with it.Chamberlain wrote:I remember when I got my first production JRX and Rick Hohwart still had his Prototype and hadn't gotten the new produciton parts yet. good luck, if your going to race it a lot find some RPM links they are strong and the stock links will Bow pretty quick.
