Found these two sad #1 esc's in my stuff! Notice one is an early type that is 3 wire, cases held with tape and large square switch, #1 is a round sticker covering a hole ! The later #1 is a 4 wire with screws holding the case together different switch and the "1" is now printed on the label! Check out the (aftermarket?) heat sinks on the early one!!!
Here they are restored! I cleaned them and added new wires, I will see if they work later!

Nice job on the resto!
How long was the 3-wire out before it was replaced by the 4-wire?

They look like filed-down pennies. As copper is one of the best metals as a thermal conductor, that would actually make a very effective cooler. All the high-end CPU and video card heatsinks use copper these days.

Didn't
Victor Engineering make something like those in red and black?

Slotcarrod, nice find! I have a few of those as well. Quick question for you. Do you know the gauge of the older esc's wire? 15, 16? I know the newer ones (T1X) used up to a 14 gauge.

The wire from both the #1's was a thicker skinned 16g wire!

Nice work Rod! Although I can't see why you replaced the wiring.
It looks to be just fine in that first picture.
