80's Late Model Short Track cars
Newbie to the site, but I have been playing with RC10's since 1987.
I have acquired several early A chassis cars and I want to build a few exactly the same for my kids and I to race on a backyard track.
I want to build 80's style late models similar to what my father raced back in the mid 80's. Stockish 70's 2dr bodys on frames that were heavily moddified. These cars looked like Arca and late model sportsman cars but with front and side nerf bars. I will attach pictures of examples of what the cars looked like (Thanks to Mark Jeffries for the great pics) and as soon as I can scan some of the actual pics from the 80's I will.
For bodies I plan on using the RJS/Bolink bodies, Chevelle, Nova, Monte Carlo... I need ideas on wheel and tire combo's, sprint car rears maybe?

The most authentic look would be to use 12mm HPI hex adapters in the rear, and convert to B4.2 or Traxxas caster blocks and knuckles up front, so you could use VTA touring car wheels & tires.

I am running bolink front and rears on my rc10 conversion, with a Mcallister lowering kit. All of this was put together recently out of odds and ends, not necessarily "readily available" stuff but not hard to find either. A lot of the older bodies are still out there from bolink (RJ Speed now) and Mcallister.
I have yet to finish by adding numbers and sponsor decals but you get the idea

I have a set of 26mm and a set of 31mm on there way to me, the tire may not be tall enough diameter though.Phin wrote:The most authentic look would be to use 12mm HPI hex adapters in the rear, and convert to B4.2 or Traxxas caster blocks and knuckles up front, so you could use VTA touring car wheels & tires.

Custom chassis, basically half a houge chassis
Front suspension has relocated links just because I could. A&L steering dyed black
Cut down motor plate
And not an RC10 but this lengthened digger has a 70 nova body that will be getting stock car theme paint too

I received the bodies in, and the HPI vintage wheels are too small. Anyone have Slider wheels and tires mounted on a late model or something that they can post a picture of?

try some custom works wheels and their rubber street tread tires.

or, try some bart's aluminum hubs and hoops. get 2 in. rims and use the custom works tires.
