Second go through and I found a bunch of mistakes I made. Wheelbase was too long in the first draft and has been shortened by about 11mm now after I rechecked some stuff. Also cleaned up the half mm measurements where I figured it wouldn't matter (e.g. chassis support holes) Still probably more than a few mistakes. (I haven't taken an Eng./drafting class since high school, and HS was a long time ago. )

I didn't include the measurements between the trans and arm mount holes...just the estimated position of one of the holes as a starting position. Figured you could could get better measurements off the original pieces than the metric converted numbers I got with a ruler.

don't forget the associated parts are sized in standard decimal/fractional dimensions, so if you find odd metric sizes, it's probably because it's standard and fractional.

Right, but I was using the chassis weave pattern to estimate lengths, and the center points for the screw holes...and I believe the weave pattern to be 2mm squares. That's why everything in the drawing is measured out in metric.

Yeah this is an oddball as all the hardware is a mix, ball joints etc are all metric, components are standard. Lots of fun lol

I will have the chassis cut as shown and will mock up using the dimensions provided, and adjust to taste

Yep Phin, I know what you were doing. I was just pointing out that if you have something that comes out like 12.3mm, it is most likely a fractional inch dimension closest to that if you convert to fractional size. This way it's easier to line up the holes etc, instead of trying to line up tenths of mm's, you just use the 13/32" (for example), easier graduation to see and mark to. not sure if what I'm trying to convey is clear?

btw, this thing sure it a weird bugger.....interested to see something assembled and in color pictures.

Given the ruler pictured in the manual, I'm actually pretty confident that the chassis was laid out in metric.

In the original draft I ended up with a few odd decimal measurements at mistakes I made when counting the weave, and on some screw holes because at first I was trying to find their centers using the actual hole diameter for 4-40, and 8-32 screws converted to metric. I stopped doing that after the first few circles...being off 1 or 2 hundredths of a mm on the center point isn't worth worrying about when you consider how I was estimating measurements to begin with.

The only places left that should have odd decimal measurements is between one arm mount hole and another....or one trans mount hole and another. Those I tried to space out using Imperial measurements...and I also centered them on the chassis.


There's definitely going to be more mistakes that pop up once the chassis is mocked up. Hopefully I'm not too far off though.



Also note, the total width of the chassis, that got cut off the left side of the pic, is 82mm. In the first draft it was 84mm, but that was wrong. If anyone wants the original Sketch-Up file shoot me a PM and I'll email it.

I didn't realize you were using sketch up, that's a pretty cool program and a totally different way to draw compared to cad. I can't draw a single line in cad but I've made some pretty cool projects off sketch up.

Keep up the great work and by all means, if you are bored draft anything else you want. My eyes go crazy counting those 2mm cubes! Haha

I shipped the woman away for a few days but didn't get very far tonight. I mainly corrected some problems with the tower I built. After printing out the tower from the manual and doing some old fashioned cross-multiply and divide, found I was way off. See first pic.

I need to get the tower "pretty" now but apart from the camber link holes being 2mm off the rest is about right.

This thing has a ton of travel with the shock laid down this far. It will need some heavy oil and spring to do anything at all

Thinking about those FWD cars with the long trailing arms and laid down shocks, I wonder if maybe a soft rear suspension with a lot of travel is what's needed?

Going to be a whole lot of new learning to do when that thing is ready to run, and it comes time to tune it. No setup sheets from the pros to help either.

We have a great little team going here- so far I've just done the easy stuff. Phin is the man for counting squares and drafting up the chassis, and J-sou will be cutting the chassis. Can't wait till your back and up and running again cause we could probably use a few nylon/Delrin bits from you

We will also need a carbon fiber guy if this pans out- the chassis will need to be laid up custom.
