Optima Mid RCRC Challenger Sprint

Post by LTO_Dave »

I got this oddball from ebay a few months ago and Phin helped me figure out exactly what it was. It's a home-made fiberglass chassis with an RCRC Challenger cage from an unknown model. It has an Optima Mid rear with 10L front suspension, and is quite neat. I tried to make it like the sprint cars that ran in the gearbox class when I used to race carpet oval with the pan car wheels.

I sanded, filed and painted the chassis to make it look close to a sprint version, and powdercoated the cage pieces gloss black. I sent the shocks, motor plate and other bits to gomachv to have anodized black. I fabbed up the ESC and receiver mounts from some leftover carbon fiber pieces I had. And I ditched the crappy shock tower and mounted the rear shocks to the cage like they were intended. Now I just need a tank, front bumper and wing to make it complete.

Here's a list of parts it included and some I've added:

- Andy's rear arms
- Option House ball diff
- Option House universals
- RRP rear tracker system
- Lunsford 10L titanium front axles
- BSR mounted foams
- Novak T-1x and NER-2x
- Unknown Trinity mod motor & Parma(?) heatsink

Very unique-looking car. It's odd to see a dirt oval chassis with low-profile sponge tires, but you know me...I like anything unique & different. 8)

Spider rear arms and bones would narrow that up nicely. That's what I did on one of my rampage on road conversions.

Back when I raced carpet oval, there were no rules about width, weight, ride height, etc. at my local tracks. So it was actually fun to race.
