Shodog's adventures at an R/C swap meet
Yesterday I drove over 200 miles to attend an R/C car swap meet put on annually by this hobby shop in Sacramento California. I Left my house at 4am to try and get an early start. When I arrived at 6:20am and the place was already crawling with buyers. Tons of airplanes, some boats and a lot of newer cars but I was on the hunt for vintage. I was able to score a few gems.
I found this Porsche 959. Body is toast like most used cars but the chassis is in very good shape and it's complete with the Tecnagold motor, assembly manual and box. Guy wanted $175 for it but I chewed him down to $75. I'm thinking I'd like to keep this for a runner
This Kyosho Turbo Optima (thanks Gomachv) hasn't been run much if any. Guy was asking $30 and I didn't even try to negotiate on the price. Just needs a disassembly and good cleaning. With a couple of replacement parts, this could pass as a new built.
1/12 scale cars that I paid $10 for and mainly bought them for the kyosho 480 gold mounted to one of them. One is a Jomac Lightning 2000 and the other a late version RC12i (thanks Gomachv)
Last was a Bolink Digger (thanks Biff85ta) chassis. I paid $25 for this I mainly wanted it for the motor and radio gear. The Tekin esc while badly soldered doesn't look like it was used much.
I also bought some rc4wd 1.55 tires for a set of wheels I have and a new spektrum receiver. Overall I'm happy with my purchases I wish I would have had some extra dough because after I had spent some of my cash I came across a sweet ready to rip catamaran boat that had twin brushless motors and 2 4 cell lipo batteries. The guy was willing to deal but I was just a few dollars short of his bottom line.

Thanks for the clarification. What makes that a turbo optima? The bigger wheels and gold dampers?gomachv wrote:Jomac Lightning 2000 and a late version RC12i

The bolink is a digger not a legends car.

They are 1/12 scale. Typical tamiya to over complicate a suspension designSFC K wrote:Nice score! I really like the suspension layout on the 959. Are those 1/10th scale?

The control arms are different too, the Turbo having arms with extra webbing to strengthen them. Shock towers were also different so you could install the longer gold shocks. Last but not least, the Turbo had a limiter gear assembly instead of just a solid counter gear, which gave some protection to the gearbox when jumping.gomachv wrote:Wheels and tires, gold shocks, stabilizers, and the chassis guard
