I don't think racing gloves are going to save your hands from a piece of sheet metal attached to a moving 1475lb sprintcar.
I have only had a pair of racing gloves on once and it was several years ago but they had a decent leather palm and would have held up much better than my hands and if nothing else could have given false confidence.

It does look like his arms are up trying to grab but it's hard to say, he could have been falling and reaching for anything in reach too.

Ive heard of it happening before, drivers grabbing at the sideboard to try and break it loose. There isn't much for reinforcement or bracing but without the board your screwed

Every year over 4,000 pedestrians are killed by cars on public roads. Damn near every one of those cars has better visibility than a sprint car, 70% are at night, 30% during the day, as well is i'm sure a number of those pedestrians were wearing highly visible clothing. Accidents happen sometimes.

And if pedestrians stepped out into moving traffic to confront drivers who angered them, there'd be a lot more killed.

I don't know what happened because it wasn't me involved...only 2 people know what happened for sure and one shouldn't talk about it (probably advised by his lawyers not to) and the other can't talk about it.

I don't know the 20 yr old but it was absolutely stupid to get outta his car and do what he did. Even if it were go karts that you could see out with 100% visibility it would've beens stupid to do that...just my opinion.

I don't like Tony Stewart by any means and don't really need to voice my opinion of him but I do know I feel sorry for him. He's gonna have to live with a death on his hands for the rest of his life wether he meant to do it or not.

Good points Klav

I know that Tony isn't a popular driver with many because if his temper, but it also shouldn't be the knee jerk reaction that many have made it to be

If you can watch the video frame by frame(not just slow motion), you can see where Ward is actually hanging onto the right side wing of Stewarts car for maybe a few feet then falls to where the tire catches him. Big mistake running at a car running roughly 50mph. Most likely the jolt of the collision jerked Stewarts foot on the throttle seeing how the throttle in these cars is more like a lever with your leg.

I'm surprised Tony sat out this week. It's time he gets back into the game.

I doubt we will see him back until the lawsuits are over. Even then it may not be an immediate return. :(

that was floating around even before the incident- he made a comment in an interview way back that one day he would just hang it up and stop racing without having a "last ride" type year. Its been used out of context ever since lol.

There are also rumors that he sold the company to the Chinese, etc. I have no idea where people come up with some of these things
