While I may not necessarily agree with his way of leaving, he really isn't any different than a lot of other of the older members that.... for the most part.... no longer come around or participate. At least when it comes to builds and such. You may see them pop in now and then. The board has changed... and not necessarily for the better. I can elaborate later.

TBH, I don't get this attitude. If you think a forum is changing and becoming less good than before*, leaving or not posting anything isn't going to change that; instead it will increase the rate of change, because the old (and by implication of your post, the ones delivering 'better' contents) people just disappear.

* This might be a perception issue. Some people claim something becomes less good just because familiar faces disappear... Although I guess that the re-re of the RC-10 may not have done this board favors - reissues of popular items tend to flood niche boards (such as this one) with lots of new posters, some of whom have rather unwanted behaviours. Some fandoms seem to be more prone to this than others (more adult remakes of child-favourite 1980s TV shows, I'm looking at you...).

I think this flooding of new posters made me post less. I'm trying not to let the change in faces deter me too much, but it's less like the family that was here, just more like an extended family now.

No forum based site, regardless of topic/content, is immune to change over time, Clodtalk has gone through it's share of membership changes, tantrums, difficult members, etc. Same with several construction forums I haunt. Faces change, we miss them and the camaraderie we all shared. We've had CT members get pissed off, delete all their pics and posts, and leave as well. I don't agree with that mentality, it is nothing more than a tantrum and childish way to behave, ultimately, depriving everyone, including the original poster, the enjoyment that those interactions brought, not to mention new-comers looking for the now lost information.

I too meant no harm with my earlier comments re: Reg. I wish him the best in life, even if that doesn't include him being a part of this site any longer.

I agree. But there is a point where some people reach the "f--k it" stage and that's it. Which is unfortunate. But hey, I've reached that stage around here myself at times, but for whatever reason I rode it out.

I myself was not against the RC10 re-release. More than enough of our older members were not happy about it. And while we did have an influx of new members from guys jumping on the bandwagon, a lot of them were gone as quickly as they came.

For some guys, their lack of interest started way back in '08 when we split the board up more. How many of you guys even remember when we only had 3 forums? Well..... 4 with the BST, but even that came months after the board began. Just in the last 4 months, when discussing the board with 2 people that for a time did not come around much, they made negative comments about it..... 6 years later.

The next round of issues i think started when the board seemed to shift from builds with all new parts, rare hop up parts, restorations..... basically our shelf queen era, to the resto mod stuff. WOIN, modernizing old cars to go racing , etc. I know that turned off some guys. For a good long while, it was like the RC10 forums were nothing but racers and bashers. Then came the re-releases (just speaking about the Rc10 right now) and i know a lot of our older members were not happy. And right now, if it wasn't for the 91 stealth cars, there wouldn't be much of anything going on in there.

Another problem is the fact that people seem to forget this was and STILL IS a vintage based r/c site. That's probably my biggest issue..... and I KNOW I'm not alone on that.

But you also can't forget about how many guys got married, started families, and simply do not have the time/money anymore. Priorities change.....

I think a lot of the stupid RC10 pricing has some to do with. You used to find parts that were reasonably priced and then everyone jumped on the vintage bandwagon drove prices through the roof, not to mention the strippers and flippers. Now it has become affordable again and the person who didn't have the means to enjoy an RC10 now has access.

I have been in the hobby for a long time (not as long as some) and enjoy vintage stuff but also enjoy some modern stuff and some modernized old stuff. I rather not go to forums like RC tech and would rather discuss with like minded people here. Does that mean I was part of the change, maybe, maybe the forum needs to be restructured slightly to keep everyone happy. It definately needs to remain vintage.

I've noticed a few different distinct mentalities on the forum - you have your early (alloy tub) RC10 purists, your replica/magazine guys, moderized vintage WOIN, your basher and racers/ modern stuff.

There isn't anything to be sorry about. I thought the jokes were pretty funny personally. Just because you haven't wrenched on an R/C in the past year doesn't mean anything or makes you any less passionate about the hobby in my book. So there isn't anything to be ashamed about either. This hobby doesn't have any rules you have to abide by in order to enjoy it. I haven't significantly wrenched on anything in the past two years since moving. I just finished setting up a workstation in the basement so that's about to change.

Exactly! That's how every single publicly accessible online forum works. Some don't seem to realize that for whatever reason. Unless it's a locked down privately accessible exclusive club, the activity and content is going to be organic. The whole purpose of a message board is for everyone and anyone to come and discuss any facet of what the board is about. They can stay as long or as short as they like. If any member ever decides they no longer wish to participate, then they can simply leave. It's a very simple concept. When a member leaves in a negative manner, the board is ultimately better off without them anyway.

What was said here just further illustrates my point about those who don't understand how open forums work. I sure hope those who stopped liking this place and left as a result, don't plan on going to another board as the majority of the other ones are a lot worse than here! This is without a doubt the best vintage R/C message board on the Internet hands down. If you don't like it here, you aren't going to like it anywhere else. Maybe they should go start their own R/C message board then... I speak from experience with that one.

Established members leaving or losing interest in posting due to the board expanding or perceivably changing direction (It hasn't.) is silly. Who cares if we get an influx of new members that only want to start topics about re-releases or those that aren't into shelf queens? Here's a crazy idea... You can ignore them and continue starting and posting in threads about the areas of the hobby you personally enjoy.

To make a long story short, it seems like there is a lot of crybaby members who have a narrow view of what this place should be, and get all bent out of shape when they feel it's no longer meeting those expectations. We're all in this niche of the hobby for various reasons, and we all come from various walks of life. As long as the root concept of discussing vintage R/Cs including re-releases remains the same, where is there a problem?

I'm not saying restructure it in a major way but possibly changing a few things to 1. keep the emphasis on vintage, 2. keep the same interested groups together.

Think of a prison, what happens when there is no segregation of groups

At the end of the day I don't care what happens as I enjoy all aspects of RC (firstly vintage) and will probably continue till I'm dead, it's just sad that the "tension" if you'd like to call it that has a negative affect on the forum as a whole.

Just my $.02.....Can you even imagine how boring it would be here if it were rc10 only?! We can barely scrape up 10 people with painted bodies for the car of the month! If there was no rc10 restriction (I am NOT in favor of this, just making a point) we would have no less than 25 eager to join in. Times have changed, roll with the change or don't... But don't make it our fault. I love what we have here, I'm sure it was great bitd but bitd is long gone

This place was never "RC10 only". But for the first few years, none of the non associated stuff had their own forums. This was it:

General Forum - Was basically everything in the General Section now
RC10 Forum - Was everything in the Vintage RC10 Section
Non-RC10 Forum - Was everything in the Non-RC10 Section
BST Forum - Was everything in the BST Section

In late '08 we separated stuff, added a bunch of new forums and moved stuff around to clean things up and make things easier to find.

Well it was initially conceived to be RC10 only as you know. If you remember we discussed with Bill on ClodTalk about a segregated place to talk about vintage RC10s. This place was created for us as a result. It started off with that concept in mind but quickly changed to encompass vintage R/C as a whole with an emphasis on The RC10 family of vehicles.
