RC10 + Technacraft

Post by RichieRich »

What are the appropriate years to combine an RC10 and a set of Technacraft turnbuckles?

If I had to guess, '92/93-ish or older would probably be it.

The earliest advertisement I've seen for them is in the 1990 RCCA Buyers Guide, which was produced/published in '89. Tecnacraft was still running ads in RCCA in 1995.

I remember buying Tecnacraft turnbuckles in 1991..the hobby shop had an assortment in an organizer box and you just picked the length you needed.

Also pay attention to the spelling(there’s no H) for searching..

Thanks guys! So, a car with a stealth transmission is fine. Funny thing about my Tecnacraft misspelling, in my mind I'm typing it correctly but my hands are throwing in the H. What is the suggested ball end to use with these?

Just about any will work fine on the 4-40 rods. For the larger diameter version I'd use RPM.

Be careful with RPM ball cups on a RC10 buggy. Clearance between the camber links and steering link gets tight. Thick shock towers and/or bulky ball cups can cause interference. Those thick aluminum bellcranks will do it as well.

Using Schumacher Atom (low profile) ball studs at the shock tower attachment helps a little. The ball is the correct size but they are M3 thread.

It might be a bit like putting Losi tires on an RC10 and they might be getting scarce since Lunsford closed up, but Lunsford 7991 ball cups are a good option.

I think these turnbuckles are kinda fat. Looks like they may be 6-32 or 6-40 threads.

Kelly had his ball ends molded next door. I’d swear they had a different look than those shown though.

Edit- they must have packaged AE for the 7991 before transitioning to the 7995 which he was molding next door.
