UM-1 vs OT-27 centre gear
UM-1 vs OT-27 centre gear
Hi all,
I'm looking for a centre gear for my Optima. I have a UM-1 package of gears which I think was left over from an Ultima. Looking at pics of the OT-27 gear set for the Optima, the centre gear in both sets look very similar. Are they the same? Can it be used on my Optima build?
Many thanks

Excellent. That will save me a few bucks. Are these centre gears prone to being chewed up? I noticed that there is a special version , W0110, where the smaller gear is made of metal.GoMachV wrote:Yes, the same gear but packaged with different gear sets.

It's also metric 48p (can't recall what module they call it)
They are getting hard to find, for a decent price anyway. I don't remember chewing them up with bearings but on a bushing car they ran loose and would start to twist the teeth a little.

Thanks. It looks like I'll need two 4x8 mm bearings. Not sure what I can use for a spacer between them as its not included in the packageGoMachV wrote:It's also metric 48p (can't recall what module they call it)

Re: UM-1 vs OT-27 centre gear
A 5x8 bushing or bearing does a good job but I always ran 4x8 flanged bearings which imo makes a lot more sense! They fit fine but I may have left out the o-ring....I don't recall for sure if it fit or if I just used a washer

Thank you. That's very helpful. You're right. The flanged bearings do make more sense.GoMachV wrote:A 5x8 bushing or bearing does a good job but I always ran 4x8 flanged bearings which imo makes a lot more sense! Flanged is the only way to go! You'll be happy with that choice.

I may have missed something in the conversation
, but ain't early Kyosho stuff Mod .8 which is interchangeable with 32p?
Metric 48p would be either the Mod .6 or .5 that Tamiya used. Can't remember which...Tamiya used both.

No I saw that. Never had one in hand so I Googled a pic to check it out. Still looked like a Mod .8 gear to me.

Re: UM-1 vs OT-27 centre gear
For the sake of simplicity, I think I'll just stick with the original centre gear. I would hate for there to be some sort of pitch mismatch. No need for any premature wear as these gears are pretty expensive. I would like to find one of those Turbo Optima limiter gears though. I've looked on eBay but haven't seen any complete gear/shaft
