Factory Team RC10GT (Open Box Build)

Post by romulus22 »

Ok guys it’s been a long time since I’ve done a start to finish build. And I’ve tried not buying anything recently. But I couldn’t pass this up.

I spotted this truck and from the limited pictures, spotted it was a legit Factory Team truck. No box, no instructions (I do have tons of tub chassis instructions) just going to open bags and start assembling.

It came with some trinity pieces and I had the engine mount. Undecided yet if any of those will make it on the truck.

I definitely cherry picked the easy stuff to do for tonight.

Ran into a small problem with manufacturing. Honestly I’m not worried about it. A screw still holds in tight and the truck will only be a shelf queen.

The next interesting thing I came across was the elusive factory clutch spring. Even though it’s been 20+ yrs since I’ve built a brand new GT I could’ve swore you bent the spring yourself. Turns out my memory isn’t that bad after all.

And that’s as far as I’m going tonight. Just a couple more pictures of where I’m leaving off.

Awesome find man! I always like this version of chassis on the GT for its symmetry. Bummer on the nose tube...kits are never perfect but still fun. I've had missing bearings or screws with no thread.

Looking good 8) 8)

Must be nice when everything is nice and new, looking forward to seeing progress. It will compliment your other GT's nicely.

Box art GT 2.0 ?

Early GT’s came with them, but they quickly dropped them. Even the instructions were updated which is pretty rare for AE haha

It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

I never was a fan of the blue pan trucks. I always associated them with the RTR and them just being “toy grade”. As time went on they grew on me.

No more box art for me. And my painter retired so the repro body I have on the way will probably just get something simple.

Since this is only the second truck I’ve built from NIB, the rest have been assembled and refreshed trucks. It surprises me there aren’t more GT’s with clutch springs. Or how many kits included the wire but no one had a clue what it was for. I don’t know the timeline on this Factory Team kit but it has to be late 90’s early 00’s and it came with the spring. Even my first kit was the all black MIP CVD version circa ‘96-‘97 and it included the spring.

And a few more pictures of the progress from tonight. I’ll have it finished minus the rest of the radio gear tomorrow.

Lots of good painters out there with reasonable prices.

I’ve seen lots of good painters. Just haven't felt like reaching out. Money was never the issue.

I bought the blue groove proline body. Thought about getting the JConcepts GTII body cause it’s so much cheaper. Couldn’t bring myself to do it though.

Had to do a late night job last night. Gave me a couple free hours this morning to build some turnbuckles. Threw the wheels on for kicks. Shocks tonight and she’s a complete chassis.

Chassis now complete. Couldn’t find any more spare decent condition radio gear. This was a fun build, it’s been a long time since I’ve got to open all those little bags of brand new parts. And as much as I used to not care for the blue chassis trucks. I already really enjoy this truck.

Looks great Todd.

My first GT had the black tub chassis but after a few years i found myself swapping out the tub for the more symmetrical blue chassis. I like this finish.

Can't wait to see it with the body. All you need is the VHS tape to make it complete.

I have a couple of those VHS tapes. No way to play it though. Somebody has posted it on YouTube.
