TRX-1-3 wrote: Wed Dec 07, 2022 7:56 pm Which wheels are you thinking about? I see these JC Racing wheels for Traxxas that explicitly say in the listing "do not fit the TRX-1", which perplexes me. What do they fit, then?
I have these wheels that came with the donor. I believe they are Traxxas? I was thinking of dying them black. Thoughts?

Just today I saw someone on FB post that those JC wheels WILL fit the TRX1, even though the website says otherwise. They posted this picture of their car wearing them.

I am thinking of maybe grabbing a set.

Note - if anyone may have one or both Traxxas battery cups, I could really use them. Thanks.

Are you still thinking of using a top plate set up if so you could use the top plate to hold the battery rather than the original cups or you could use a set of traxxas 2525 from the trx-3

Just a thought

Thanks for the confirmation on the JC wheels!

Those wheels you have there look like older Bandit rears and TRX-3/TCP fronts. I've dyed sets of the TRX-3 style wheels and they take it great. Those rears appear to be nylon as well so it should be no problem dying them. I don't have any dyehard advice on the dying, but slow and low to medium high. Some say just below a boil and dont let the parts sit directly on the bottom. I've always just tossed them around occasionally at a simmer. And I don't measure the dye. It's darn near the whole packet/bottle and just enough water to cover the parts. And obviously as long as you want really. Sometimes I've ended up with a purpleish hue in the right light when I didn't leave them in long enough. And if you scuff or scrape/bend the rim bead running or racing there will be like a dark blue/indigo kind of appearing.

*edit* all of the above assuming you are dying them black.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Thanks to both above replies. I have added this Factory Works top plate. The material is different to the chassis, and more glossy. I very lightly sanded it and blacked the edges to try to make it match better.

Making clearance for the servo arm with the top plate in place is challenging. I had to use a shorter arm. I'm still not happy with the layout and am searching for a different arm.

With these modern electronics, the car looks pretty similar to my other 2 modern buggy builds, so I think this will be my last one.

That looks sooooo cool as usual!

Just a thought on the steering, can you flip the steering lever so that the linkage is in the centre of the buggy like the blue eagle ls it means the servo will be off centre but at least it won’t foul on the top plate

Thanks all for input on servo location. I messed with the idea of moving the servo over, but I really like how it looks centered on the chassis. It currently clears the top deck in the current location, but I had to use a plastic arm. I think I can find or make an aluminum/cf arm.

I have some silver aluminum centers for making custom steering arms, we use them for drag steering. I could whip something up if you don’t come up with anything better.

The donor car came with this painted body. It's quite nice, but unfortunately not my favorite colors. I will be painting up a new body for it. I added the new Penguin wing.

Small world. Not sure if your whole car was mine but I owned that body for sure 5 years ago or so and lots of your car looks familiar. I got the car from another friend of mine who no longer posts here. He did a few parking lot races with it, I sat it on my shelf and it went to ebay when TRX1's sold for practically nothing.

^ RCveteran - Yeah the guy I bought it from said it had gone back and forth a few times. It was very well built. I really like the paintwork, but the colors aren't a great match for the car now.

I threw on the white wheels, and I think they need to be dyed black. I think I will also order a set of JC 5 spoke wheels.
