Re: RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"
I can't participate in this, but I gotta agree...using parts only by the same brand as (or intended for) the car isn't really a custom build, IMHO. It's pretty much what everyone is already doing.vintage88 wrote:so everything has to be for the specific car??? i dont know if i like that idea i say make everymakers car parts work together i have half a lohas frog chassis and an old cut up rc10 front end with chewed up andys arms and all miss match turnbuckles and poorly dyed plastics... will this still qualify??? rules are starting to get a little hazey here its all low buck its all parts i got in parts lots i won on the bay... and from my frog from when i was a kid...

Re: RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"
well....I would say a frankenstein is very much included in this contest. the goal is to build something cheaply right, so....I have these parts here, and these parts here, lets throw 'em together, and see what sticks.
my offering in this contest will have no less than 3 different manufacturers parts thrown together.
the rules will have to kind of be hashed out based on the entries, I think, since there doesn't seem to be a universal set of goals.
for instance, I have some new parts, I picked up as either parts lots, or new car pull-offs. so I get them at a screamin' deal. low-buck? I think so, but it depends on the judges, right?
the more you hand make however, the cooler I think the car will be in the 'judges' eyes.
and it sounds like we are all the judges

Re: RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"
What if one happened to have a whole bunch of expensive parts lying around, and slapped them together to make a unique car? Since nothing much was really spent, does that apply?
Just teasin'.

Re: RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"
Still sitting here twidling my thumbs waiting for my RC10 to arrive so I can do something with it!
Re: RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"
well here is mine so far. bought this chassis off ebay years ago but didnt know it was cut so wrote him back he refunded my money and kept the chassis. all the parts used on the chassis were parts i collected over the years. like my custom front shock setup! front shock is a rear rc10 shock and the rears are old frog shocks i had. the rear shock tower i have no idea what it came from just kept it cause i knew i would use it one day the wheels were holiday buggy 2010 wheels (which i was selling on here) since i didnt use them on my holiday buggy since they are butt ulgy, so i cut out the centers and slid in different style wheels so i could use the size tires i wanted. front tires are also holiday buggy. dont know if i am going to use those mud flaps had from a project that i decied not to use. so far it has cost me $0 i am going to buy new rear tires and a new body. will update as i go on well it continues. nib sand schorcher body $54 and proline paddle tires $24 and a repro cox stinger exhaust $15. WELL MINE IS ALL DONE SOOOO WHAT DO U GUYS THINK??? its painted testors competition orange with a pearl clear coat.

Re: RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"
I'm in.
So far I have an old dirt oval "pencil" type graphite rc10 plate, trimmed and drilled the nose to fit a losi bulkhead. Bulkhead mounted backwards, running a front end off of a blitzer beetle. Needs some more trimming, shimming, and shocks and should be ready for wheels.
For the rear end I am still in the brainstorming stages:
The chassis is too narrow for a 5-link setup might go with some losi arms of some sort with an AE 6-gear trans, . Will try to do a rayborn slider type conversion to use Traxxas slider driveshafts and axles through tamiya uprights to keep it all metric matching the front. Don't know If I have arms long enough to give me room to do those driveshafts though.

Re: RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"
I'm in too, my spare parts sprinter build is gonna be my build
I think in the spirit of "Low Buck" we should list where all the components come from and how much we spent on them!?!

Re: RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"
Build list is a great idea but what if you have parts that you have no idea where you got them or how much they cost? 28 years of being in this hobby you kind of gather a few things
If things seem under control, you are just not going fast enough.

I think my Losi build I have been planning fits this bill...not much of a Frankenstien as a whats sitting in the used parts bin calling me to use it...

Do we have an answer on this as I am in the same position?RichieRich wrote:This is how I built my last RC10. Can I submit something I've already built and drive?

Re: RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"
Dang, I wish this was a big-buck build off cause that's all I've got going on now. Maybe if we do another big-buck contest in April. I could probably throw together a spare parts RC10 pretty easily right now, but I've got two monster trucks torn completely apart at the moment and I need to get them put back together.
