i've got an old, odd one from when i was in school. i've never heard of anyone other then kids at my school playing it.
circa 1985 the game is called "butt's up"

here's how you play:

you need a tennis ball, a few guys and a big wall (like the outside brick wall of a gym).

you can only touch/catch the ball with one hand. you throw the ball as hard as you can against the wall and someone else has to catch the rebound with one hand, if they drop it or it hits them without being caught they need to sprint to the wall and touch it. during that time anyone else can grab the ball and throw it at the guy running. if he hit's the guy running before he reaches the wall then the runner has to bend over at the wall while the other guy gets three full speed throws at his butt. this was a game played at recess.

i have no idea who invented it, it's kind of sadistic but alot of fun.

Normally some Finnish wins a world champion in those, since there are no competitors from other countries for some reason...

What about the Holy Pillar Festival in Japan? You need to see the video to understand how insane it really is:

 I remember that game! the spot we used was like 200' long with wires over it which could deflect the ball. some times on a long throw , we'd just "throw" it a few feet n run!

We played the tennis ball game too. we called it wall ball. Usually on the back side of the dugouts at our father's softball games.

We played butts up in so california in 83-85 too. The first year was like 6th grade and we played nearly all year. This was a parochial school mind you. At some point the nuns decided it wasn't cool. After that we had to play it on the down low, on the lower field, with a spotter 8) .
