Project RC250 Club Racer

Post by RC10resto »

Recent purchase NIB partially assembled kit with Veco 19 and a 1/8 UDS (VDS?) FREWER body. Order sheet inside is dated 1995, later than I thought.
Enjoy the pics :D

Nice stuff!
The servo saver looks different from the standard one as pictured on the box. I don't think I have ever seen that, was there an addendum to the manual for that setup?
The motor plate also looks quite nice, with countersunk/recessed screws on the bottom and areas milled out for weight savings.

Yes, instructions call for a K&B 3.5 (.21). The previous owner told me the Veco was built by Vic Garner.
Oh well, maybe Bill C will send me one

Its funny how there is no knurling on the flywheel, how are you supposed to start it,a satarter wheel would have trouble gripping on that.

The servo saver was already assembled when I received it and I have no separate instruction sheet for it (maybe he threw it out?). The instruction sheet shows the old style saver, looks like a bitch pulling that spring wire.
The rear aluminum motor plate still has "Sharpie" ink on it, thought that the milling may have been a mod by the previous owner but it looks AE. Also, the front bumper is very roughly cut on one side, I assumed the previous owner hacked it up but upon further inspection it looks factory "hot wire" cut?
Maybe in 1995 they were too busy pumping out RC10's to care about 1/8 pan cars

Yeah i tried to get to the bottom of the whole shady kydex cutting on the 1/8 and 12e stuff. Web steve asked curtis and he said it was a punch press. Not so sure with those ruff edges :?

Really a nice score Brian, that Johnson gas tank is very hard to find, a while back one of them in the box went for over $110 on eBay. The fuel filler is an oil dripper used on farm and machine shop oiling of shafts and such. Really a cool catch and I happen to have an extra K & B 3.5 that might be available.

They used the same process on later fiberglass towers for the rc10's as well, but they improved the accuracy a bit

Do you guys think that the milling was done by AE or the previous owner?

Brian, I looked at mine and it is not milled as received from the factory. I don't think that the milling is bad as it recesses all of the bits that would be hanging down below the back aluminum plate. I'm not sure what the rectangular milled out space is for but I'm sure you will figure it out as you assemble. It looks to have been done very professionally.
