Kyosho Rocky 4wd..... I think?
Kyosho Rocky 4wd..... I think?
Several weeks ago, I bought a new Tamiya Mad Bull kit for my son and a bunch of old rc car parts. We've had a blast putting things together and seeing what we can get running again. We still have a ways to go... We're hoping to get enough cars running, that my son and his 3 best buddies and myself, will have a car, to play with. My wife is doing her best to be a good sport, since we've turned her kitchen into a garage
Here's a picture of what I "think" is a Kyosho Rocky, from what I've been able to see on the internet. If I'm mistaken, can someone, please let me know?

Yup, that's a Rocky. Lots of Raider parts fit. If you break the steering bellcrank, you will cry

The raider parts are easy, rear end gears, axles, arms. The problem is anything to so with the 4wd portion. The steering bellcrank is fairly delicate and expensive. Been searching for one for a while myself!

One of these days I'm going to make a steering bellcrank of my own for that sucker. That design is silly. There has to be a better way to do it.

Yeah they missed the boat on that one. I have repaired mine with careful dremeling and a formed piece of piano wire. Holds it just fine....on the shelf

Perhaps something like this would wor? It's a Tamiya FF-03 bellcrank, part #54235. Just install your servo and a Tamiya-style servo saver, connect the tie-rods, and you're pretty much done.markbt73 wrote:One of these days I'm going to make a steering bellcrank of my own for that sucker. Re: Kyosho Rocky 4wd..... I think?
The rocky has a very flat bellcrank to fit under the trans, and the balls are on the rod ends. Backwards from typical

I was actually thinking of a sliding rack, like a Tamiya Boomerang. But thinking is as far as I've gotten...

From you'r description I think the Maxxum FF set up would wrk well for you. But I'm not sure if that 'd be any stronger than the original.
Kustomworks sliding rack perhaps? Might be still too high though

If the one you have is in good shape, it should be fine for normal running. But get a front bumper for a little added insurance. It uses the same bumper as a Raider, which are everywhere.
Re: Kyosho Rocky 4wd..... I think?
It's in fine condition. With my an
d sons driving skills a bumper is a must!
