Ultima Pro XL gearbox question
Hey guys...
Not being that knowledgeable about Kyoshos, I thought I'd better default to the experts on this question......
Rebuilding my Ultima, which has previously been identified on here as having a Pro XL chassis... however I popped the gearbox open, and found a number of interesting things.....
- The final pinion is alloy, which I believe is a Pro item...
- The counter gear is press-fit on the counter gear shaft, rather than the usual pin locating method, and
- The other end of the counter gear shaft does not have a notch for the E-ring, like every other Ultima I've seen.
Some pictures..... Left Side: Right Side: So, the question is..... is this an Ultima that I can't find a manual for (Ultima Pro XL maybe?), or is it an aftermarket part???
Would really appreciate any input....
Alex

Re: Ultima Pro XL gearbox question
Looks like an optima top shaft, lacking the needed e clip groove. Optima bearing installs from inside not outside like ultima

Re: Ultima Pro XL gearbox question
Well, that is interesting..... not quite what I wanted to see I guess, if it is in fact only an Optima part.....
Might have to just build it and see what happens....

Re: Ultima Pro XL gearbox question
You won't have anything to keep the bearing in
otherwise it would be fine
Not that it really matters but your lacking the ball diff as well. The gear diffs are tough so I'd leave it anyway but it does take away from the "pro"ness

Re: Ultima Pro XL gearbox question
I'll make up for it in the Pro-ness stakes with the universals, carbon(-ish) chassis and combination gold and platinum shocks (three of each!).

Re: Ultima Pro XL gearbox question
It came with only three shocks (platinums, two fronts and a rear), and I had some golds spare (one front and two rears), so it will be built with platinums up front, golds in the rear, and sold with a spare front (gold) and read (platinum). Either that, or the front left and back right will be gold, and the others platinum... haven't decided whether or not to do that as yet...Coelacanth wrote:That sounds interesting...what are you planning to do with the shocks?Incredible_Serious wrote:combination gold and platinum shocks (three of each!).

Re: Ultima Pro XL gearbox question
I always wanted to do a optima mid like the old advertisement- Turbo SE on one side, standard Mid on the other. Might get a little tricky on yours tho LOL

Re: Ultima Pro XL gearbox question
The layshaft is an early version. Originally they were co-molded, later the gear became removable. -j
