External Circlips Retaining Rings ID

Post by sandkil »

So I'm reaching out to you Yokomo guys to see if you can ID the retaining rings on Masamai's RC10GX from back in 1989.
Any idea what makes or brand these are?

generic 1/8" "external" retaining rings. Parma and others sold them back in the day but a place like McMaster Carr sells them as they are just common industrial hardware.

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Is there any advantage to these vs e-clips?

They are harder to lose but harder to install as well. They can still get ripped off the hinge pin but not nearly as easily.

If you want a tighter fit, use clips made for 3mm pins. I commonly use Traxxas clips on hinge pins that have worn grooves, but they'll fit regular ones as well (just a bitch to get on).

Hey Sandkil, I just bought those RC500 ones from eBay, the closest looking ones I could find to the ones on the Masami RC10GX, when they get here if they look and feel right happy to send you some?
I come for the RC10's but stay for the Yokomo's :P

Measuring the associated 5118 part, I think these from Mcmaster Carr are the right ones. https://www.mcmaster.com/90341A101/

Anyhow these are the Associated one.

My absolute pleasure, following your build on Instagram and am already lagging behind you with mine. As soon as I get them will do a test fit with pics and if good will send you some :)

So I just received my package and they appear to be the right size….however the circlip pliers I have are too large, any suggestions on the correct tip size for the pliers or suggestions on a cheap pair on amazon? (Really appreciate any input)

Lol I have already fired one across my living room which nestled right into my shag carpet, lost forever.

Not cheap, but these are what I use on all the small clips that I've encountered.

Sorry for bumping a thread with no Yokomo connection, but
I just needed to vent the fact that McMasters think it's sane to have a $65 shipping cost for a $9 purchase.

If admin wants to move this thread to Associated On-Road Forum, that is fine by me.
