Please Help Make Sense of the "Wide Arm Conversion"
Please Help Make Sense of the "Wide Arm Conversion"
I'd like to convert my re-release to wide arm. There's a small section in the re-release manual that lists parts. I'm a bit confused about what I actually need as well as one question of front shock "length."
First, conversion. Manual says I need:
6418 FT Gold shock shaft, .71”
6433 Front Shock Kit .71
6460 Shock Shaft Front .71
From what I can tell, 6418 is a full set and 6433 & 6460 are what is needed to make them gold. My question with this is do I really need to purchase the entire shock set or can I re-use some of the original parts?
Second, is I'm looking for a used set (affordable) on ebay and there are a ton of front shocks listed but with no part numbers. Is there a visual cue I can use? Or overall eye to eye length of the .71?
I got the other parts covered, so just trying to figure out the shocks.
I lied, one more question. Anything else I would need beyond what's listed in the manual- attached section below as a refresher.

Re: Please Help Make Sense of the "Wide Arm Conversion"
That list is misleading as you don't require all those parts. Those are parts that will work.
You need the longer turnbuckles, and the long arms and the shock tower and the 6433 kit.
Also not sure why they list three sets of turnbuckles unless they also want you to adjust the rear geometry.

It is possible to use the shorter shocks by using the inner mounting holes on the control arms. This would be similar to using Andy's arms.

Re: Please Help Make Sense of the "Wide Arm Conversion"
You can use a CE style tower with the long arms and .56 shocks, that's what the bottom row of shock holes were for.
Re: Please Help Make Sense of the "Wide Arm Conversion"
This helps a ton. Can I use my original gold parts with the 6433 kit since it's the gray color?

Re: Please Help Make Sense of the "Wide Arm Conversion"
Honestly I would rather see someone buy the FanRC shocks and arms, they are cheap and work great.

and the longer turnbuckles..
fanrc titanium are $35, a very nice upgrade but you could use anything from fully threaded rod cut to length to the AE part numbers listed if you want. This would be IMO the cheapest and easiest way to go, and readily available.

All of the 'V2' associated non-threaded shocks grey, gold and blue parts interchange.

Just do this + FTW shock tower + FanRC turnbuckles; nicely spelled out by GoMachV. Put the AE stuff on ebay to recoup some funds, unless you think you are going to get into the hobby for the long run, in which you may as well keep them for when needed in the future.
I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

This is great, thank you. I came across those shocks the other day but couldn't tell if they were legit repros or cheap copies. Love the suggesting and purchased.GoMachV wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 5:05 pm Honestly I would rather see someone buy the FanRC shocks and arms, they are cheap and work great.

As for the tower, I found one, but I did order the bell crank from you guys the other day. I also have my eye on those pink "o" rings.
I opted for the 1up racing Ti turnbukcles since they make a pink, because why not?

Re: Please Help Make Sense of the "Wide Arm Conversion"
The trailing axles from the short arm work fine.
For a "correct" wide arm car, the newer inline axles and carriers are what should be used.
