Academy Nissan 300ZX "The Awesome One" Super Alta clone
I was intrigued by this one. I ended up being the only bidder too. I have had Super Alta before, and this is clearly Super Alta, but it's an Academy clone. Plastic feels a bit more brittle but pretty close. Part numbers even start with a "SA". Unfortunately the seller kept the bottom box and wadded up the box cover to ship it. Bastard. Anyway, here are the pics. Pretty interesting how close of a clone it is!

I hope the body fits better than the picture on the manual suggests?
Nice catch for sure

Kyosho stocker was the swan song for the Super Alta iirc. It also was a Porche GTP, Mini Cooper and VW beetle

Man why did they clone the crappiest design?
(sorry let me take this back - they also cloned the Optima bitd!)
I had the (K!) mini version - still have it but have to put it back in shape. That Nissan looks cool, though!!!
Nice and interesting one

I agree, the super alta was a crappy racer- but it was so floppy it actually drove "ok" compared to a pan car on unprepped outdoor surfaces. Also super durable. Kind of like an On Road Raider lolLonestar wrote:Man why did they clone the crappiest design?

I bet it wasn't as floppy as the folded lexan sheets SG and shumacher used for racing polished wooden floorsgomachv wrote:I agree, the super alta was a crappy racer- but it was so floppy it actually drove "ok" compared to a pan car on unprepped outdoor surfaces. I actually have one of these. Used to race it on carpet oval bitd. I'm glad to know a little more about it now. Any other information I should know? Poor thing will never be driven again since the plastic spur self destructs so easily.

If you need a scan of the manual I can provide it, but it only covers radio install. Looks like all Kyosho SA and BU parts would fit directly.

That's what I was thinking, too...but this one probably has better suspension.jwscab wrote:That chassis looks like a frog has it's way with a pan car, and this is the result.

If its not too much trouble, I'd be very grateful for a scan of this.gomachv wrote:If you need a scan of the manual I can provide it, but it only covers radio install. Looks like all Kyosho SA and BU parts would fit directly.

Academy had it at least with 3 different body styles; just like kyosho.
