If you could take one modern item back in time?

Post by biff85ta »

Here is the idea. You have the ability to go back in time and hand your younger self one modern rc upgrade. We will assume it will go unnoticed by others. So what modern thing would you hand over to the younger you and at what point? Will it be Lipos and a charger,a brushless setup, modern tires,2.4 ghz radio equipment or perhaps a modern kit? These are just example throw any whatever you think would have helped you out back in the day.

You might turn this into a poll with specific options; brushless motor & ESC combo; 2.4 GHz radio system; LiPo battery & charger; modern tires & wheels; and "Other"...to help eliminate overlap in the responses. :)

That's a tough question. I love the low-maintenance aspect of brushless motors, but I think battery technology would be the biggest game-changer compared to the old days, where you struggled to get a hot-motored offroad car to run 4 minutes. Now it's a non-issue. :) So put me down for LiPo battery & charger.

I would bring myself a lipo battery, with all the winning lottery numbers pasted on it :P
Oh, and a charger to go with it.

I would bring back a magazine.

I would show all of us back then what would happen to this industry in the hopes that we could stop the RTR nonsense and keep this hobby a hobby. Might also keep us from drilling all those holes back then lol

A list of big selling items so that I could invest in a few MIP 4wd kits.

A nimh pack - a million times better than a Nicad, without all the disaster potential of a 12yr old with a Lipo!

I would bring brushless, truing motors every 1 - 3 runs gets old.

Failing that I would definately bring my experience.

A lipo back then would be a game changer. You could set up some kind of low voltage alarm but imagine running against everyone else with ONE battery pack that would potentially go twice as long or three times as long as everyone else?

Well, Flesh Light isn't an option so I guess lipo for me. As a kid the battery war was always the biggest obstacle for me due to the cost. :x

You would however have to learn to pay attention to motor temps instead of if you could finish the heat.

I used a decibel meter to gauge motor temps BITD. After a race I'd ask one of my friends to touch the motor and I'd record how loud they screamed.
