you need snap rings or e-clips for 1/8" shaft.

Those are a little odd as I'm not sure how they go on. Hopefully there's a slit where the square hole is.
Interestingly, even though this thread has been brought back to life after more than six years... I have a NIP set of these Parma bits in a lot I'm selling on eBay at the moment..... :roll:

I think we messaged yesterday about them. Are your Parma units gold colored?

Wouldn't be me, mate, I didn't get a message. Besides which, mine are in a lot with a large pile of other RC parts.... *cough* 253690634886 *cough*.... :roll: . Hard to tell what colour they are from the photo... can check tonight, if necessary...

I'm guessing the slightly-too-large e-clips might be Metric 3mm e-clips, not Standard 4-40 e-clips...which are a hair smaller. I had the opposite problem trying to get e-clips onto a Kyosho hinge pin...turned out I was trying to get 4-40 e-clips onto 3mm hinge pins. They could be forced on, but had to bend open a smidge and probably suffered structural integrity.

I have the correct pliers for the snap rings. I bought them during the era when the rings were popular for off-road. I Don't have any snap rings to go with them. :|

Do you mean the Parma retainers, like the photo above? I bought some from Scr8p (don't have them yet) and was wondering how you fit them on, or if a special tool is needed.

If you could post a picture of the tool, that would be awesome. Or, if you want to sell it, let me know. Thanks.

@lavigna Yes, works for the Parma and other makers. I'll get you a picture and some words about how the tool in used later this morning (EST). Just got my butt out of the bed and drinking a cup or two of java right now.

@lavigna

Sorry man, I've not been able to put my hands on the pliers as of yet this morning. Basically what your looking for are external circlip/snap ring/safety ring pliers. Here's a link to an example of what you'd be looking for: https://www.amazon.com/Neiko-02129A-Mini-Pliers-Piece/dp/B002E08YSY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1529757620&sr=8-3&keywords=snap+ring+pliers+external+small

Basically, you insert the tips of the pliers into the holes of the clip and squeeze the handles to open the clip, enough to slide it over the hinge pin. Only open the clip just enough to get it on an then release the squeeze.

You may be able to get the pliers local. They are commonly found within the automotive tool environment... maybe even a Snap-0n dealer. See a truck. flag it down!

I hope I've been able to help you.

Ok. I actually have a set of those. I thought the Parma retainers may use something different, because they don't look like a regular snap ring with the two loops for the tool. Take a look at the Parma retainers. From the photos I cannot tell how they open, but I am sure I will figure it out once they arrive. Thanks for all the help!

They are the same, just instead of two small holes it’s two small half circles due to the tiny amount of space

Finding a pair of external retaining ring pliers with tips that small isn’t that easy. They are out there, but not like a Harbor Frieght or Sears kind of thing.
